Aware some other people in this forum are also students but everyone's opinions are welcome:

University Cricket in 2013 had been changed to T20 not the current 50 over competition but subsequently changed back to 50 overs due to student uproar. Note this change did not affect the MCCU sides or div1a sides

But a little more controversial was the Loughborough MCCU Ladies side application to join the mens league as the the women's league was not enough of a challenge (record score of 420 odd for 0)

Was just wondering people's opinions of both matters

This has been covered elsewhere on here - on the former, was always a silly idea (I remember when it used to be 60 overs a side!) on the latter, I assume they were turned down!

Yes the women's team were not allowed to join the mens league.

See I was almost looking forward to playing a side with multiple internationals/ future internationals and see what level women's cricket really is at. But on the other hand the rules are clear, mens league and women's league

womens team will be pretty much england under 19's academny and all that. dont play for england or a county unless you go to loughborough

I think that's pretty broad statement cricketbadger, Essex Ladies captain was at the university of Bedfordshire last year. But with the national performance centre being at Loughborough of course it helps to be based there...

I wouldn't have a problem with the lasses at Loughborough playing for the men's side if they were good enough (and some probably are) but to have a women only team in a mens competition opens all kinds of unwanted issues.

I do agree withe number of issues. But it is now not happening so it's been put back another year

Its tricky in some ways because - well, can you imagine the fuss if a man wanted to play for a woman's side?  Lets make it a more complicated moral issue and say it was a lad who couldn't get in the men's side....what do you do then?

Yeh I was speaking to my girlfriend about this the other day when we spoke about the sarah taylor issue
If girls are good enough then they can play for the men, but what if a male isnt good enough for the men, can they play with the women? in theory why not? I dont see a problem, its essentially the same thing, I'd think its unfair on the male if he wasnt allowed. but i dont think it is/would be allowed

This is unfortunately the problem with equality legislation.

Its okay for the woman to want to be equal with the man, but not for the man to be equal with the woman in reverse.

The same applies to issues of race/religion.

Its an absolute can of worms!! because when does mens cricket become unisex cricket? and will womens cricket become unisex cricket? and then every other sport has to be looked at too ...
