I don't know why more top players don't buy into a bat company and use their kit. Surely If KP used for example H4L the sales would sky rocket and they would make a killing?

I don't think Matt would sully the brand by having that prat use his amazing bats!

I remain to be convinced there is a killing to be made in the manufacturing of cricket equipment.

To keep it pure and not dilute the brand it is definitely a lifestyle model.

It's like any artisan product.

A good way to expand production is to offer a 'standard' product at low prices, with the really good stuff getting a 'Custom shop' badge. Gibson and Fender do it.

In the end, the name of the bat-maker will always sell the product.

Do they have the capacity to make such large volumes?

It's hardly as if KP or in fact any of the England players are struggling for additional income. These small but in our eyes great cricket kit manufacturers should stay as they are. New Balance and Adidas with Trott & KP are hardly renowned for just cricket gear and could take the hit better if the cricket gear doesn't sell compared to say H4L etc.

That's why the arrangement of pros using small firms but putting their sponsors stickers on works for everyone.  Whereas I'm sure the small firms would love the business, demand would outstrip supply in weeks and customer service would go down the pan.  Better they make the bats for the world class players, in the knowledge they're providing quality.  No doubt word of mouth in the pro dressing rooms gets around, orders go in and they are judged on the quality of their bats, not their ability to attempt to produce thousands of bats - quality would certainly be diluted if this were the case...

I would suggest Trott is doing what most do - having them made by his preferred bat maker and putting the New Balance stickers on them.

It's been done to death on forums I know, but why would you entrust your livelihood to a non-specialist sports manufacturer (in cricketing terms) when you've had someone making bats you trust for years?

I wouldn't and the conversation should be simple; I've got the bats, you've got the stickers and the money, let's help each other out.

I should be an agent...

Reportedly he ordered and took delivery of 10+ bats from GM shortly before he left for NB

He may well have done; we all know there's no way on earth NB are making his bats for him...

It's purely sponsorship these days, there have been open secrets for years who makes who's bat. Trott prob liked the shape for him, they know exactly what he wanted and off you go....

anyone who has been to Warsop will see a signed bat in a frame which says ''thanks for making my bats''. It's not a Warsop stickered bat...

just once, i would like to see a top pro with a bat advertising the small manufacturer on the telly.
Just once, It would make me happy !  but im a bit of a saddo

Sponsorship deals work both ways. I tend to believe that the sponsor gets more value for this investments by sponsoring certain players.

If a bat maker is paying "x" amount to a player then they would expect there sales to increase by at least a few multiples of the "x" amount being paid.

So if a player moves sponsors then it is his decision and he and his agents decide how to maximize the returns on the few inches of prime space available on the bat.

It takes a lot of time and airtime for viewers to record which new sponsor the player is using. A lot of people (excluding the CBF members) will still say GM sponsors Trott as he has been with them for such a long time.

I seriously believe the time will come very soon for some of our forum brands to make it big.

Was talking to the maker of Trotts bats over the weekend. Certainly not NB that are making them!

Anyone else think that this is a little bit immoral?
Mind you, GM must have known he was coming to the end of his contract so perhaps they could have said no... or they were trying to keep him loyal.

If its within his contract then I see no problem, I'd probably have done the same, wont make much different to GM him taking 10 bats, gained them plenty of exposure over the years

I agree, especially after the amount of years he has spent with GM. He has chosen money over good looking products for sure  ???

Theres no way adidas make money out of sponsoring sachin and kp

Sachin endorsements with Adidas go beyond cricket. He has been Adidas brand ambassador ever since his MRF days.

Adidas sponsor a lot of cricket now (more than Puma or Nike). Sponsorship deals with ECB, CA and CSA.

They surely make a lot of money from replica kits
