Chest protector
« on: February 20, 2013, 08:16:43 AM »

Now then forum gurus quick question for you all- who bothers with some protection for their chest/ribs? I had a couple of ribs broken last season (strangely enough while fielding rather than batting) and it seems to have affected my confidence at the crease. I've never been an excellent player of the short ball but have always managed to tickle it down leg/get out of the way when it was angled into my body but I seem to be making abit of a hash of it now. I'm doing some extra sessions to try and help with this but wondered whether getting some protection for my ribs would help?
Someone at the club mentioned that there were t shirts you could buy with protection sewn in, anyone use these? In think these sound more comfy than a standard chest protector, any advice lads?
Cheers o wise forum types  :D

Yes, these are the Dukes ones.  They're quite clever really, but the Aero and Stretton-Fox options are also worth considering.  I use the latter and it's proven to be a lot better than my old bulky Hunts County one! For me, the only downside with chest guards is the stick you get from team mates / opposition for wearing one, but the Stretton-Fox is so thin, they won't even notice you're wearing it! Not bad protection levels too, if you've seen the YouTube video we did for it:

stretton fox one looks great but funds will deffo not stretch to £50 for something im not sure ill even wear all the time though, i like that it can be held in place with a base layer, any of the cheaper versions do the same?

Not that I'm aware of, no.  The Aero one is pretty good value, so that might be better for you, and we've had some excellent customer feedback on it... We have some in stock: http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/personal-protection-c1/chest-guards-c39/aero-p1-chest-guard-p367

I have both (not that I use them!!) in your position, I would go for the Aero one.

I currently have an aero chest guard, too bulky. Having met George from Stretton fox today, I'll probably be getting one from him.

Kooks used to offer this, it's not in their 2013 catalogue though. I can ask if they have any still kicking about, and go and pick it up same day if it interests you?
