It makes me sad to think that there's no Tom Maynard in that batting line up though.  That would be an awesome Line Up- Smith, Solanki, Roy, Ponting, Maynard and Davies

I think it is a good signing, However I feel Surrey have gone down the old man route to bolster their squad rather than getting up and coming pro's from other counties.

Although I do think counties should look to have strong youth academies maybe they feel this is the easier route? Plus with there being no 'transfer market' you tend to have to sit and wait for contracts to expire which means building a team is harder. They could of course bring in transfer and transfer fee's like other sports and then a club could literally build a side far easier..

Wonder if he does secretly fancy one more pop at the Ashes if he scores some decent runs.

Top, top player and I'm sure crowds will increase when he's playing.

We Brits love to give him a hard time (generally), but I know I'd travel down to pay and see him bat...

And if Maynard was still around then Hamilton-Brown would still probably be at Surrey so you would then have Smith/Ponting, Roy, Solanki, KP(on the odd occasion he is available),RHB, Maynard and Davies. That would put fear into the hearts of any bowling line up!

It's like picking your club teams strongest xi, it rarely happens lol

A very valid point however I can't think of a better place now for any talented youngsters to develop their skills. Having 1, 2 or maybe even 3 batsmen around who each have over 7000 test match runs could do wonders for the likes of Meaker and Roy.

Still not a patch on Somerset's though! God knows what people see in RHB and Toy.... they're both pony IMO. Solanki and Davies are both past it, and Pitersen will never play! Now a fully fit batting line up of Peterson, Trescothick, Compton, Hildreth, Buttler, Kieswetter.... thats a proper batting line up! ;)

To be fair Nick, they're no worse than Kieswetter, teflon with the gloves and average with the bat, might as well have kept Snell ;)

Atherton's 185* at Jo'burg was pretty special. Saw the job home too.

Haha touche, funny how different people see their own teams isn't it? Kieswetter's turning into a half decent keeper mind..... better than Buttler!

No sure about Peeswetter, he's a slogger and T20 modern style of keeper. I'd much rather have Davies than Peeswetter. Tresco is a legend so anyone would have him. Solanki is past his best and has never been the class of Ponting/Tresco so I expect to see him quitting in 2013/14 (14 if he has a ok ish season).

I don't follow any county sides so no bias here :)
