BB Distinction Review
« on: February 24, 2013, 03:28:09 PM »

Some of the guys from the forum have seen this bat at the Lord's net we had on Monday, and a couple of other people have asked about it too so I thought I'd get round to doing a review today (as City vs Chelsea isn't really exciting me that much).

This was bat number 1 in the Deal of the Century thread, and I wasn't really looking for a bat at the time. However, the profile, plus the fact that it was G1 bat for £168 persuaded me to buy it pretty quickly. It's now going to be my match bat, unless I really don't get on with it (which I can't see happening to be honest).

First of all, specs of the bat:

Weight: Was around 2lb 9/10oz when I got it, with a second grip on it now weighs 2lb 11.8oz.
Pickup: Very good pickup, feels 2lb 8/9oz
Handle: Oval
Edges: 34 mil
Spine: 70+ mil (haven't actually measured) (only just fits in my bat cover...)
Grains: 8, fairly straight, evenly spaced

It's made from an oversized cleft, and is a bit of a beast. But the amazing thing about it is how light it feels, and how well balanced the bat feels when you pick it up. You can pick it up and wave it around with no problem at all, and I'm not the biggest guy in the world. It just feels like an extension of your arms, which is pretty impressive.

The finishing is also very good too, nice rounded edges, very high quality toe guard (not the kind you have to worry about falling off in the middle of an innings) . Came with a red chevron grip, and I've added the Salix style 1/2 chevron 1/2 spiral, which just helps the pickup even more. Stickers that came with it are very nice too, lovely matte finish and classy colours, minimalist design which lets you see the wood too.

Only used in one net so far, and I wasn't really feeling it due to a couple of hours of nets the previous day and 1.5 hours of bowling. Still, a few shots which I did middle went quite nicely. I plan to use it in a few more nets before the season starts, but I'm very happy with it so far.

Now for the fun part, pictures (if only I had any photography skills whatsoever...) . Enjoy  :)

Couple of nicks I was told about, but not bothered about at all really...

this bat is a monster, I ran into it when I was at ijc. I was really impressed with it.

Just a quick update. Netted with this for half an hour earlier today, bat lived up to expectations. Ball absolutely flew whenever hit anywhere near the middle. One ball got absolutely smashed over the bowlers head for a mighty six.

The most impressive aspect of this bat is just how light it feels, and how well it picks up.

Best bat I've ever owned I can safely say.

Used this for the first time in a match last weekend. Hit 18*, inc 3 fours. One of which was an on drive which came right out the middle:

Nice to see a bat getting used! ;) Looks an absolute belter, I'm glad you are loving it! I find myself liking the shape more and more, but no more bats for now! :D

Yeah its an absolute beauty, so impressed with it! Used my Dynadrive this evening in nets, and despite being same weight as my BB felt so different. Just picks up heavier than the BB. BB feels like im picking up a tiny little bat...yet it has a ridiculous amount of wood in it!

Hi ! Guys, even i want to share the same match experience as it was my first outing with BB bat, timed couple of balls with maximum results, most importantly the pickup of a 2.12 stick seems to be just 2.8 or 2.9, really amazed with the pickup and extra punch, hope it will do wonders in upcoming encounters.

The six which you hit against the wind was mind blowing !! Hope you score tons of runs for the remaining season.

Looks a lovely shaped bat with plenty of meat all the way down the bat. Seems to be playing as good as it looks, keep enjoying your season

Glad to hear that this one is performing so well for you, Jamie - I have to say, I was impressed with it when knocking it in...

I have to disagree about the pick-up though.  This was one that felt 2oz heavier than it actually was to me.  Proves how subjective a thing pick-up is I guess!

Funny how pick ups vary from bat to bat.
My reserve and spl reserve though both being 2'9 feel like coming from two totally diff bat makers :)

I think you are right Paul. I must admit that the Salix that I got from you felt ok but not amazing in the pick up department when I was waving it about at IJC (it is a bit of a one -off though shape wise). However, in proper use it is a different animal altogether and picks up very nicely indeed.
