I would but I also think we need some experience in the top 6 given we already have two noobs. Unfortunately it's too close to the Ashes so Bell's going to have to stay I'm afraid. IF the selectors  decided to just rebuild the side (and so gamble on the ashes series) then yes, I'd sack off Bell for Bairstow and move Root to 5. KP would be kept but retired off after the second ashes series. Hopefully then Root will have done well and moved to 4, Bairstow to 5 and Taylor to 6 (if we assume they are the 3 in waiting).

And let's not forget Eoin Morgan. Will Bell & KP out the picture he could nail down his spot as drinks carrier. All hypothetical of course

Morgan's well off the Test side I would have thought. Who is in line as the next WK?? Prior is 31 (I think) so I'd hope we are looking already to who will take over him in 3 or 4 years (maybe giving them exposure against the likes of Zimbabwe, Bangladesh).

Hold on Yorkshire fans your boys have hardly done anything right either root or bairstow....

The problem I see is prior is better than both root and bairstow so either get him down the order which I don't like or get somebody in who can do it.

Bell is quality no doubt about it but like root and to a lesser extent bairstow they need runs and time is running out.

A innings from any of them can change it though

Prior replacement is well that another thing I think bairstow is the possibility along with a few notable others alex Davies,Buttler, and so on

If bairstow does not don the glove I see no test future for him I really don't.

Root is ok but lets not get carried away he is only a score of keeping his place but also close to getting dropped if he does not step up again soon.

I just think its funny that when NZ were scoring runs it was because of the brand of ball being used but when England's top order gets skittled for near nothing suddenly there needs to be a complete reselection of the team.

It wasn't just England bowled bad and didn't adjust to conditions?

Bairstow would be second choice right now.

Both fit the bill but I think prior at some stage might revert to just a batsman currently he is more than good enough.

Agree our bowling especially in the spin department has been average

I'm not a Yorkie and couldn't care less what county they come from as I don't follow county cricket (no point following a team I can't get to watch due to playing). I don't think anyone on this thread is saying Root is a world beater but I don't see anyone better currently, and he's new into the side so needs a few more games before throwing him out. Bell looks quality, again though no one doubt how he looks. Bairstow needs regular games to get some form back (in fact they all do). Get them into county games before the NZ home series and some time at the crease. Stop this pampering and barely playing and get them batting/bowling. I'm sure it'll help (might be worth protecting the bowlers a little more due to injury but the batsmen can play in all the county games for sure, they don't need 'rest')

As for Number 4. England are batting poorly, ball is not swinging any more than a new ball should so I'd blame the batsmen before I start saying how good the bowling has been. (It has been better in this innings than Englands was though, barring Wagner who looks like cannon fodder)

It's not like these are things people are saying on the back of a bad show. People have been saying Bottle Job Bell needs to go for ages.
And on England bowling poorly that is the case no doubt. Monty was ineffective and I personally think Broad and Finn bowl too similarly, meaning the attack looked blunt and, dare I say it, unbalanced.

He never totally recovered from his op last yr though.
