Terminal?
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:05:12 PM »

Now I've got this photobuket stuff licked you're all gonna get bored of me posting!

Just wandered what veryone thought of this busted bat? I've seen a similar photo somewhere and it was recommended that the bat was rehandled.

I think it's done for but welcome any suggestions!

Yeah, I think filling the cracks and rehandling will be needed. I'm not sure, but I think cracking up there tends to happen when the handle hasn't been fitted on well, but I know next to nothing about this kind of stuff! :-[

you could always lower the shoulder and make it a long handle, short blade (T-20 type) bat...i think you would need to rehandle / somehow stop cracks from expanding...

Lowering the shoulder is an option but there will be one problem, the crack is pretty near to the handle. Taking wood out from there would reduce the handle thickness at the bottom.

So today was step one. Put the bat on the jig and cut out the old handle.

You can see the extent of the damage now the handle is removed I'm even more glad I decided to do this now:

Now to cut a new housing into the blade so it will have a big enough join. I have squared off the shoulders of the bat below the break and moved the blade 1.5" up the jig:

Now all I need is my handles to come in the post! Watch this space.

Is it likely to crack again if you take a bouncer to the bat shoulder?

I'm hoping not as I've just chopped the whole top of the bat off below the line of the crack. It makes the blade 1.5" shorter which I believe is the form for a T/20 style bat. Although they're nothing new according to my old man. Who says you used to be able to get bats called super lights back in the 70's/80's when he played that were the same shape as the original Uzi.

This is gonna take a bit longer than I hoped as Wrights are being a bit cagey about selling me some bat handles! I only want 10 and they reckon it's 'impossible' for them to sell me less than 20, which I can't afford right now. Anyway...

Surely someone on here can sell you a single handle!

Someone on ebay sells handles but they are pre-cut . I remember Andy@SAF offered a handle to someone.
