Australia
« on: June 15, 2008, 05:13:01 PM »

Watching the 3rd test against the aussies and the West indies has really homed into me the fighting spirit the aussies have got. From collapsing in there first innings (bowled out for 251) to bowl the west indies out when they looked like taking a lead was great. The only blip was Casson who looked a bit out of his depth.
There batting well what can you say to post over 400 in a third innings is something phonemenal. The aussi selectors are going to have a headache when Hayden is fit.

What an opening partnership of 223!  How can you fit Hayden into that team? ???

Nozza - you can not put him in, because a 223 opening partnership suggests he is surplus to requirements anyway - I imagine he will retire at some point in the near future and Australia will be forced to cope without him - so why not leave him out now and give the new opening pair a chance to settle and build a relationship before the ashes

nah it doesn't work like that here mate. he has been the incumbent opener for 8 years now. does anyone remeber that 94 on debut for phil jaques in ODI's. he was taken out the next match. He has proven his worth and is still dominaitng attacks so whats the big deal. i know u guys just dont want to face him next ashes. you'd rather the not as steady katich and jaques. he wont retire soon.

I think there's going to be some headaches for the Australian selectors. Also have you got another spinner anywhere cause Casson looks like he bowls hot and cold.

fair does if that's not how the aussies do it - I can think of several english players... Graeme Thorpe, Mark Butcher, Andy Caddick who were only left out of the team due to injury, but never got places back as their replacements all took their opportunities

I guess Haydos is prob eyeing the next ashes as his swan song?

I don't think he will be that succesful not because he hasn't got the talant but because to the majority of international batsmen he will be an off spinner so they can just play him on the leg side easily or if he bowls outside off pad him away.

thats why he uses a wrong'un. and ever heard of jim laker, the off-spinner. 19/90? Well technically casson is a left handed legspinner. but i get your point.

I might have heard of him it was against you aussies wern't it at old trafford in the 1950's. ;)
He was an off spinner and the reason he managed to do that was because the pitch was wet. And i'm glad you realise what i'm getting my point.
