Wanted peoples thoughts on this...

They say "the correct" batting technique is by using your top arm for the majority of your strokes, so wondered if you haven't got a good grip on the bat could this affect the way you bring your bat down and shots etc...

I have used 2 grips the last few years but in nets recently (pending on the bat) I have found having a thin top of the handle allows me to play shots more effectively to me.

I've got 3 and a half grips on mine atm and had 3 (top one was a shock absorba) last season so basically the same. At nets I've been using my bottom hand more but I'm putting that down to 5 months of not batting.

Grip set ups can alter your technique slightly, but not enough to blame it for dismissals

I think it is personal preference - in AOC - Mark Ramprakash says he likes a thicker top hand - where as other pro's (and most club players) seem to like a thicker bottom hand.

You should try both and see what works for you!!

Takes me about 5 weeks of netting to stop dragging stuff to leg with the bottom hand! By that point the body is re-trained ready for the season.

I have dwarf hands, so a thin top handle is better for control. I do like a thicker oval handle, something I had on my Dukes years ago. I use to discard bats if they didn't have this criteria. Now I build it up using insulating tape and half grips, so it feels oval.

i have 2 and a half grips on mine. with a smallish handle at the bottom i found i gripped it too tightly making my shots very bottom hand. with my current grip set up it makes my grip softer and therefore less dominant.

This ! I exactly do the same

To the OP in a way yes it effects...i-e when i bat with single grip i avoid smashing bbowler back drives coz it hurts wieredly to fingers hands etc however with double grip i smash those with ease

I don't know, only thing I find is that thin handles don't work for me even if I put on a bunch of grips on them...

I think it more the weight redders and pick up that is more prevalent with technique.

For a hobbit I do have big hands but feel a thinner handle helps me manoeuvre the bat better with a thin cheaper grip

Id say that in general it would depend on what you are used to handling  :D

But the amount of grips will definetly effect the pickup as each grip will add about anywhere between 0.5-1.5 oz per grip depending on the type. i find that if i have a bigger grip it helps me stop holding the bat too tight and i am able to stroke the ball alot more

I have tried 2 octopus grips before and felt the bat seemed much heavier, didn't like the thickness and didn't have as good a control of the bat.

However if I use a GM shock absorba I do like the feel of the bottom hand as it feels soft not thick. I now use 3 bats, one with just an octopus grip and the other 2 with Kookaburra extreme grips, bottom half chevron style and top half octopus which seems to do just fine. The chevron is slightly thicker but not so much that it affects the feel of the weight of the bats.

The number and type of grips can effect your game.
It may be psychological, but it may have an effect.

If my bat isn't gripped correctly then it play's on my mind and I start to worry and fret. Bonkers I know.

Mine are 1/2 a regular grip at the bottom with a GM Control on top. You get a big soft handful for your bottom hand (pun intended) and a firm grippy grip on top.

It's subjective, a bit like Mayo (can't stand the stuff).
