Footwear dilemma
« on: March 11, 2013, 09:56:20 AM »

Ok guys could do with some assistance here, or a hefty nudge to sort myself out.
I'm buying new fielding spikes this year, as is always the case when the season comes back around. Usually its been an easy choice as there's Only ever 1 set that really take my fancy or RP sorts me some puma ones that have always been excellent.  Well, this year there are three!! And they're all stunning IMO. The adidas sl22, puma EVO speed and obviously the  asics gel advance4. Now price is usually not a factor but seeing that the poomas and adis are 30-40 pounds cheaper than the asics I took those two as priority but after trying them all on I found I really liked all three :( I'm genuinely stuck here because I couldn't seperate them in the store at the weekend and left empty handed. Which is a rarity for me with cricket gear ha ha. Anyways ill pop the images up (no doubt you'll all have seen them anyway) and just try and gauge what others think. It will end up coming down to looks I think in the end but they are all so pretty :( I can't buy all three... That would be ridiculous... Wouldn't it?

Clearly the Evospeed are a no-no as they are a revolting colour...

Forget about the Asics as they are more expensive and you said yourself you like all three pairs. Now your down to two!

The Pumas are revolting in colour but if they did a different colour scheme I would go for them, I've always liked Puma spikes, very comfy and seem to last really well. As for Adidas I have heard a few negative things about them, like build quality, weight (supposedly quite heavy?) and comfort but if this is the new range then maybe it's all been sorted out now?

For me the Pumas but not in that colour scheme...you'll look like a kids tv presenter!

There's a trend already here lol. Last year's were better in the red/white and blue but felt very narrow.  The fit is better this time around. You're right about the advance4 though. Awesome shoes but I just don't know if they justify the price tag when others are so much cheaper.

If anyone has any alternative suggestions please add to the list. I'm open to any alternatives. Just stuck to these brands over others in the past

Only a teenager would wear those Pumas. they look awful.
It's strange that footwear designs are so lurid for such a conservative sport.

So, that leaves the Asics or Adidas. I'd go for whichever is the most comfy, having said that the Asics are pretty gawdy as well!

Whilst it might not be classed as a 'premium' shoe the GN ones with the light blue sole look really cool and are properly comfortable and seem to last well? Nike are ok but expensive and quite heavy.....

You've picked the best ones in the market but check out the GN's they do it for me.... (Optimum Allrounder I think?)

I think the Adidas look best, but all that mesh is going to get dirty pretty quickly, I'd go for the Asics personally as they are nicely coloured with out being garish like the Pumas

My personal choce would be the asics, as I've always had trouble fitting my extra wide flipper feet into adidas and puma shoes, as I find them to be too narrow.  Asics seem to fit just right for me.

Only occasionally. I have seperate batting spikes as I like lighter footwear when fielding.  I tend to be responsible for a lot of ground coverage haha.... specialist fielder.
