I need some advice on setting up a local exhaust system in my workshop during sanding process.
I am using orbital sander at present and if there is a system which I can directly attach it to the sander, would really help to take the dust out directly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can get an attachment which sticks on the end of a vacuum cleaner, which just takes the sawdust away directly!

agree with nick on this one. if you dont have the space for a decent dust extractor then a hoover based extractor does a good job

umm... to  run the vacuum cleaner through out the sanding process and it sucks in the dust.. Its a nice idea. Do I need to make it custom attachment or they are readily available for this purpose.

Also is hoover based extractor and vacuum cleaner are same terms?

basically the same, the dust extractor version probably has a little more capacity and a little more power. if you get a decent hoover/vac you should be fine. attachments are pretty standard as most of them are made to the same size. im sure any decent online shop would have the right stuff for you if you cant get it locally.

My Dad has got an attachment for his sander that replaces the bag out the side, which just attaches to the hoover, and yeah hoover and vacuum cleaner are the same thing.

That plastic bit on the end connects to a hoover. What sort of sander have you got?

Might be worth spending money on a decent one though. take a look at one of these:

These are good as you plug your sander into the extractor and it only works when you want to use the sander, saving you from turning both things on separately.

You stand a chance of busting a domestic hoover (bar Henry of course!) with the finer dust that sanding creates. Trust me, I've learnt the hard way having overheated a customers vacuum cleaner cleaning up after myself when I've not had my one with me.

Yes it has an attachment with a little bit of tube and a box where it actually collects the dust.

I reckon you'd be able to disconnect the bag from the tube an attach it to th vacuum cleaner then
