How much does playing cricket cost you?
« on: March 14, 2013, 04:43:55 PM »

We've had a few threads on subs/match fees before but I'm putting a different slant on things. How much does a season of playing cricket cost you? Include:-

Subs
Matchs Fees * Number of games played
Post Match beers
Any fundraiser you normally take part in

If you really feel brave, have a crack at petrol costs! Subtract, as a separate item any win bonus's or revenue you get from playing.

I bet it comes out to a fair whack!

I notice you have missed out the most significant figure - bat buying  :(

Here's an example from last season:-

Subs - £50
Match Fees - £5 * 30 odd games = £150
Entertainment - £20 on average depending on whether familiy are with me - £20 * 30 = £600
Fundraiser - £10 fantasy league, £10 on raffle tickets. Didn't do much
Petrol - mostly local , £5 a game (£2 home / £8 away) - £5 * 30 = £150
total = £50 + £150 + £600 + £20 + £150 = £970 over 6 months - £160 a month (roughly)

Cannot calculate any PB as it comes in a chunk at end of year but here's what a season costs me on average for just league games (22) Excluding cup matches and any additional games for other clubs, Sundays, Wednesday nighs etc.

Sign on: £50.00
Teas: 66.00
Beers: based on an average and pints are only £2.00 = £400 probably add afew hundred more easily with nights out on top.

Estimate of petrol for all away fixtures = £220

If we played all cup games, village games inc finals and 20/20 fixtures the total of that inc fuel, teas, subs and beers would be roughly £700 on top of the league games

God this gets scary. Considering we easily go through £30-£40 most Saturday nights just in the CC.
Christ nick no wonder I'm skint through summer mate... And is class our cricket as cheap as well.
Frightening really isn't it . I bet if I did a diary of every pound spent it would be way more than my estimates as well.

Not even considered harvest festival and club events or buying whites and kit and the other things like raffle tickets etc.

I don't like this thread anymore

Not comparable to UK but anywere from $500-$700 per season when you account for fees, travel, accomodation, meals etc.

Not as bad Liam as when I was at Marlow:-

Subs £120
Match Fees - £8 * 35 games = £280
Petrol was a round trip of 60 miles for a game £10 a game maybe £15 on average - £350-525
Drinks - bit cheaper as I was already skint my this point and the kids were younger and on cokes not cider -£10 a game = £350
Club Dinner, Fantasy League etc - £50
Total - £1150-£1325

I gather match fees are £12 a game now.

Just did a more believable account of expenditure adding the events, what I remember buying at them and the nights out.... That plus all the games I played last season inc headingley cc and indoor games..... £2103

That's an absolute Joke!!!

Simmy will have a fit if he calcs his up, he plays more than I do and buys more gear, and pays more for it lol

Subs - £80
Match Fees - £10 for league x 20 games; £8 for Sunday’s and friendlies x 15 games = £320 Luckly the club does not charge for T20 cup games as we have made finals the last 2 years that could be even more expensive!!
Fuel my games are fairly local (25mile radius) and I drive a diesel so a bit less than some – about £300
Drinks – about £10 a game = £350 luckly I managed to get out in the 90s three times last year or it would have been more for the jugs!
Social fundraising nights - £50x2 = £100 (me and the wife)
Club Dinner (me and the wife) + drinks - £80
PreSeason Nets  - £35
Season Total in the region of – £1265

Ok, so I'll literally just do Match days but if you want me to add in the cost of winter training then let me know :)

Match fees (so all saturday, sunday, midweek and t20 games) = £301
Subs/Membership to the different teams - £115
Petrol - (remember I was driving from Chelt to Northamptonshire every weekend!) £1400
Drinks - Post matches on sat/sun/midweek/t20 - £560
Two end of season presentation nights - £110

total - £2486

IF you want me to add my winter nets then this winter I've also done:

INdoor net training (so from Oct 2012 to now) - £ 300 per month
Indoor cricket 2 games a week at £5 - so £60
Petrol this this is probably £100 ish
Club nets since feb/mar = £30

Total - £1990

Grand total spent on cricket (excluding kit!!!)   -  £4476 for 2012 season and 2012/13 winter nets! You can add about £1200 ish for 2013 kit for this year.
I did play about 60 games in total in 2012.. Hoping to beat that and get 70+ games this year though :)

Match fees - average £10 per game over 15 games
Subs - £75
Post match drinks, etc - £250
Events - £75 inc drinks
Team shirts - £30
Petrol - £25
Other travel - £0 as used travelcard

Total £605 so relatively cheap.

This year I'll not have the fuel cost, I'll nto have the beer cost as I will have a home to go to rather than staying at the clubhouse after games.. I'll also not have one clubs fees to pay or presentation night.
