Footwear Advice
« on: April 02, 2013, 12:53:49 PM »

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for advice on spikes as I looking to replace my two pairs of spikes (bowling and batting) for just the one pair. I currently have some Adidas 22yard bowling boots from 4 or 5 years ago which have been very comfy but are not very subtle when fielding and Asics Gel 335 spikes for batting (long story with these but basically bought the wrong size due to US and UK sizes confusing me :()

Looking at the current options on the market, I have found:

PUMA Iridium Full Spike Adult Cricket Shoe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PUMA-Iridium-Full-Spike-Adult-Cricket-Shoe-/400450202815?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Athletic_Shoes_ET&vti=Size%0910&hash=item5d3cb12cbf

Nike Flywire Century II (I am dubious about the listing due to the seller adding the wrong model on the photo's and the 1 feedback) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nike-Cricket-Shoes-/190819114730?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Athletic_Shoes_ET&vti=Size%0910&hash=item2c6db49eea

Adidas Howzat Full Spike http://www.discountcricketoutlet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=101_153&product_id=512

Adidas SL22 (http://www.discountcricketoutlet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=101_153&product_id=510)

Has anyone had positive or negative experiences with any of the above or any other recommendations?

I am looking to spend no more than £50-60 and would like some that offer comfort and support when bowling (seam up trundler), fielding and batting.

Have you looked at the Asics Speed menace?

I did look at the Asics options but was put off by the price of the Speed Menace :(

9.5/10's seem to do the trick.

What about the Gel Gullys?

You can have a look at them next time you visit mate.

If you bowl in them I don't think the Adidas options will provide the best support. The hybrids from Asics are superb shoes and Advance 4's can be found for £60-£65 on ebay

Ordered this one yesterday from PDC:
http://www.prodirectcricket.com/Products/Asics-Cricket-Shoes-GelSpeed-Menace-White-Super-Blue-Black-22634.aspx

Now anxiously waiting for it to arrive. Looks to me a great deal as was only available in my size.

Try them on. Make sure they fit.
Substance over style is very important with your feet.

if you just want one pair for both batting and bowling then go for adidas 22 yards LOW IV , they seem to do pretty well for all rounders :)

The more you spend on boots the better! Look after your feet.

I bought some football astroturf boots for batting in as I found the lighter weight really improved my footwork. Still need spikes when its very wet though.

Cheers for all the help so far. I have reconsidered my options towards the bowling style shoes available at the moment. The two options now seem to be the Adidas Twenty Two Yards Low Cut or Asics Gel Speed Menace. Obviously trying both shoes out would be perfect, but not many stores near me stock both shoes.

Any bowlers recommend either of these?
