Stretching / loosening up

My physio mentioned it to me a little while back on how stretching was not needed before a bowling spell: http://nyti.ms/Xp2hXa

No more Merv Hughes-esque moves at fine leg for me (except for the warm down, got to give the crowd something)

Im not sure your physio is qualified!

The only time Ive managed to get injured is when I turned up late and didnt have time to stretch! We have a physio on our side and he probably spends about 25 minutes stretching!

The gist is that you warm up by doing a bit of cardio rather than trying to touch your toes. And stretch for warming down to get rid of the lactic so you are good to go for your next spell, be it in an hours time, or a days time.

As far as I'm aware static stretching is pointless, it's dynamic stretching that you're supposed to do to warm up

static stretching is bad...... like the guys said do a bit of jogging and cardio... a few looseners of turning the arm over to warm up the muscles. static strecthing lengthens the fibres. then you put an expolsive movement through them... not great!

The thing is that "what you are supposed to do" doesn't suit everybody. As we are all different we need to warm up in ways that suit us. What works for me may not work for others.
Personally I need to do a good mix of warming up and static stretching. Dynamic stretching doens't work for me, I did it for the last few seasons I played hockey and in the end had to warm up by myself as it wasn't working for me. Others in the team loved it.

I only do dynamic stretching and foam rolling now during my warm up, i find these much more beneficial to static stretching.
