Bat hitting the top of my pad
« on: April 09, 2013, 07:33:43 AM »

I've just bought some new duck and run pads and they come up about and inch taller than my newbery ones. I've found that my bat keeps clipping the top hat of the right one when I play a shot - Is this a technique problem, or are they simply too big?

I like to think they're too big, was fine with my chase ones, woodstock ones I had this problem and fine with my Indian men's size ones

Maybe a bit of both, just watch your back leg, I was taking a minute step forward and bending the knee too early

It was hard to change my trigger, I didn't even know my first movement was my back foot moving forward a tiny bit and bending.

Get a mate to video you from side on, rather than in front or behind.

I thought this too, I probably wasn't taking a big enough step and leading with my head and shoulders properly. I'm thinking about widening my stance anyway so maybe this will help?

Another thing to think about James is how your bat is coming down.... you maybe playing slightly inside out or potentially beginning with your back lift pointing towards fine leg (playing outside in if you like). I appreciate you mentioned new pads, but sometimes little gremlins can creep into our game without noticing..... OR it may have always been there and the new pads have just brought it to your attention..... OR it may just be your pads are too big lol, either way, a couple of things to think about/have a look at. Hope this help.
