Salix Visit
« on: April 09, 2013, 10:58:54 AM »

Hi Guys

Just thought I would let you know about a visit to Salix at the weekend with my son.  If anyone is thinking of getting a Salix bat then they should seriously consider taking advantage of the chance to visit the workshop and have a bat tailored to their own requirements.

To have Andrew help my son select a cleft and then take his requests on pickup, weight and "meat" in to consideration whilst making it was a great experience for him (and me!); his ability to guide on the shape and constantly tune it until both he and my son were happy was to see a true craftsman in action. The nearly finished bat had a beautiful pickup and looked amazing although it won't arrive for another couple of weeks - I'll post some pictures when it gets here.

Andrew, Vicky and the team at Salix couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming -  truly great guys.

Looking forward to see it, what was the spec you asked for out of interest?

It will be stickered up as a Pod Players but I'm not sure it will resemble one that you could buy off the shelf.

Its size 6, 8 grains (i think) with a middle/low profile. What struck me most about it was the thickness of the edges compared to the pickup, we didn't weigh it but it didn't feel much different to his previous (more traditional profile) Salix.  When the bat is delivered it will also have two grips on it which will also change the perceived weight.

I'm no expert but when we compared it to other clefts it pinged beautifully; Andrew also recommended another cleft which had some heart wood in it but it was going to be too heavy.

Glad you enjoyed your visit mate, sorry I wasn't there to meet you. Andrew takes the same care when making a jnr bat as he does with any senior bat and you are right if you want a custom visit there are not many better places to go.
