Pads a thought
« on: April 12, 2013, 01:16:37 PM »

With the movement in tech with bats and for sure helmets why have pads not moved on.

Maybe materiel but also why not different pads for different needs by that i mean bat the odd extra cain and wider wings why are the front pad and back similar when there needs and requirements are so different from front pad and back pad yet there normally the same.

Maybe mad thinking but thinking no the less

I think there are quite strong views on pads in respect of traditional style vs modern and maybe this has prevented too much 'creative' development.

it crazy when you look at it the vunrable area on the front pad is the same as the back yet the actual vunrable areas are very different indeed.

I have never understood why both pads are the same. I can only think of one company who have had a different front pad to back pad and thats Kookaburra. I think they had an extra cane in their front pad so it wrapped around the leg more.

Others have different wings

It just makes me laugh no is has ever noticed the padding everything is the same yet you do get different areas of getting hit and he vunrabillity of both pads should be different but isn't.

It interesting

Indeed - yet loads of people who bought the kook pads, still wore them with the extra cane on the back leg. oops. I pointed it out to a couple of opposition players and got told where to go!!

I am hearing that there are a few new ideas coming for next season, but they will be hamstrung buy the traditionalists... if you look at the RSB pads, the Aero pads and other two strap, light weight pads - these find it really hard to break into the main stream.

Tomtek might be an interesting person to give a view on this as his helmets are still having to break some traditions...

Or if you don't notice like me, the pad with the extra cains is at the back haha

Or one has a different wings like my fearnley ones one is slightly wider and has a added bit on.

I think the back pad should be different shape and style to the from pad

Yes, someone has thought about it:

How many people have you seen wearing them? In the last five seasons I've seen them once.

Marcus posted a video on FB  or Twitter about a prototype Stretton Fox/Affinity collaboration pad that looked interesting and different.

I've probably seen 2/3 people use them, had to agree Tim.

I like the concept of them but, for me it would be a pain to get the fit right as I wear pads over the fronts of my feet

For me it would be the same as the front pad and a very different back pad but in a traditional manner

Seen one person wear them, and the amount of abuse they got for it I'd be surprised if they were ever worn again  :o

I had a pair of aero's. They were extremely comfortable, light and excellent protection ... however wore them once, got slated by team mates and the oppo. Quickly put on ebay!

It wasn't until I started using the forum that I noticed this. Had been using my Kooka RP's for only 12 months until I switched. :D
