KP out of New Zealand series

What's people's thoughts on this now he's definitely out?? Big opportunity for Johnny B and Joe Root if either of them get runs, could make selection interesting if they both do well.

Best case scenario keep both Bairstow and Root in the side and drop Bell when KP returns!  ;)

I don't quite understand the negativity towards Bell, what has Bairstow done to prove he is better? Like to see Root in the side but not at the expense of Bell.

Looks like the selectors have seen sense and Root has got Fat Samit's place in the side. Never thought he was a test match player so glad Root is playing ahead of him  :D

England will stick with root and bairstow-they have invested a lot in these players.
In the modern game the abilty to get superfit and work on your game counts for a lot.
I think england have got it right myself.
Not so sure about the perseverance with bopara in the squads.
Lots of talent dont think mentally he is tough enough
Hope im wrong

Bopara should be nowhere near the squad! Can't see why he was named in the 30 man squad for the champions trophy really...

Bairstow's knocks against the Saffas last year had more balls than most players show in a lifetime, though I find myself agreeing that he is not yet a locked on pick...

That knock showed his potential as a test match cricketer, just think he needs an extended run in the side. It was a bit of a case of "you've not had a knock since last summer but carry on where you left off" which isn't the ideal situation when you do get selected.

Can't fault what Bairstow did last season showed promise after a shaky start, but he did show he is willing to learn to succeed.

Oh, his three knocks over the winter do little more than contribute to the lies, damned lies and statistics debate - a guy with no first class playing time told to suddenly make runs in a test match is not likely to succeed too often.  And those knocks showed more than promise...

...but still I'd say he has something to prove,  if only in terms of his technique against spin.

The good news about KP missing the Kiwi series is it means he will get the full payout from his insurance firm for missing the whole IPL season.

oh.

Does his knee really still hurt or is he being rested to give two guys (Root and Bairstow) a chance to nail down the number 6 spot.

I'd suggest that maybe the knee injury is worse than reported?
