First game of the season and you are a typical forumite....
« on: April 20, 2013, 08:23:12 PM »

You have maybe eight bats, seven of which are knocked in and could be a match bat. How do you choose which one you will use for your first match, or even, which two? And if you are Chad or Pete, how do you narrow it down to the ten you'll choose from?

I'm in a quandary - do I use my Hades, my Instinct, my Laver or my "Special" TT, Dynadrive, the one I made or B3? I've used three of them most in the nets? Is it one of those? Or do I take all three? Or try something new?

I always used to carry  4-5 in my bag. It was a gut feeling type when I got to the game. Strangely, 9 times out of 10 I picked the same bat to use but occasionally it would be a different one.

I decide which bat I will use before I leave home, then take a spare. I just take the one that feels good on the day.

My instinct tells me to take my Hades, TT and Instinct but I only have room for two...

I have managed to narrow it down to just 2 bats this season, so its an easy choice, I would personally use whatever feels nicest on the day...what makes the TT 'special'?

It's a Pakistani (maybe MIDS) bat that was too heavy and I had reshaped by Dom to take some weight off it.

I've only got one match bat and net bat that I might use if its been really wet. Quite jealous of your choice Tim as the hades look great.

If I had more bats I'd probably just use the newest one until I had a couple of bad scores then swap. Used to do that when I played squash and badminton when I was younger - if I played badly I'd put some blame onto the racquet and change for a bit.

I've always wondered how people like Pete manage to choose which bat to use. I've just about managed, but only cos my BB seems perfect for me! Best bat I've ever owned. I might try others if the runs dry up...

Since last year I decided which bat will be used for the whole season and thats what I struck with throughout the year and I would carry a Grade3 which is if it rains. So it will be same for this year even.

I don't change whatsoever.

Firstly you have too many bats. Sell some and get it down to two or three.  Then make sure the bats you have are different enough to cater for the conditions.  Maybe a low middled bat and a higher middle bat for decent bouncing wickets.  Or take a t20 or heavier bat for the slog and another for batting normally. Either way find some logic to what you do lol

Pete took a b3 and salix to the game yesterday.  Both pinged off nearly all the bat face so his bases were covered.  As we both said you still have to use it properly and the track didnt give us much chance. I think that tells you all you need to know really.

i keep two at all time. a main match bat and a back up both are almost the exact same profile and same weight. the question becomes, what do you do when your backup is just as good as your main match bat!

Tim, you don't take the 'TT' to any matches - you lend it to me, so that it can be used by a 'proper' batsman.

Problem solved.

ps - I netted with Pete's Salix the other night. It was astonishing.
