Just came across this video on youtube.


Schoolboys told how to bat by cricketer Len Hutton, late 1940's. Film 30228

Very nice illustation of batting although the forward defence looks little different to what we are taught these days.

You'd be surprised how many "old school" coaches still teach like this - Les Lenham (Sussex) and Kevin Lyons (Cardiff U.C.C.E) to name two

Thats what I meant with the forward defense shot. But remember he was one of the best batsman.
