since my last post - test bats
« on: April 23, 2013, 07:07:54 PM »

Hey guys!

It's been awhile since I've uploaded some images of what I have been up to on my road to progressing and developing my skills further. I have been lucky enough to get to know even more bat makers and learning a lot from them to take but into my workshop. I have since my last built a few things, in particular a binding lathe (still perfecting and tweaking) and a sanding drum machine. Feedback would be great on profile, as these images are off a few bats I've made for testing for local and university teams for a net session. Hope you like!

Loving that twine!!!
The block of wood supporting the bat (the donkey) needs some kind of covering to stop it marking the bat and making indents on the edges. You can use anything for this - a bit of rubber or foam gaffa taped on would suffice.
What's your sanding process at the moment?
Good luck with the batmaking, looks like a nice little sunny set-up you have there!

Thanks. My friends mum owns a craft shop and got it in for me.

Ah yes, that is currently being fixed as what was on it fell off prior to the photo being taken. Sanding wise, I have built a drum sander, through a contact I have made at work who sells professional sanding equipment. Gets a pretty good finish on the bat.

I thought the same about the twine.

really good work, I wish I could make a bat like that.

yea the twine is pretty cool, thought it would be nice to have something different instead of the standard white.

Thanks, I'm still perfecting my skills and knowledge, but I've been getting good feedback from established batmakers from companies and know what I've been doing. Going to get some more will in the next few days. So will be more posts coming soon!
