Hi there,

I have just bought a new style of Fusion bat, not sure what to call it, so will just call it a new style of fusion bat.

After a lengthy chat with Bill, I told him what kind of bat I was after. Received the bat very quickly indeed, and have to say it looks like an absolutem monster! Thick edges, and big middle. Nice. Very nice pick up too. Here are some pictures, and I will give a thorough review tomorrow after using it in the nets.

It might be considered to look quite similar, but this looks a bit more like a normal bat, if you know what I mean.

The blade's 19 inches, the handles 14.5 inches I believe Tom.

What harm is there in having a splice on it?

A splice is a dead area in the bat. Meaning you won't hit it anywhere off there.

But surely, as a 15 year old still learning my game, I'm better to keep on targeting the middle of the bat rather than relying on hitting it so high up on the bat?

Haha, I can promise you it isn't, it's just a conversation.

Yes but when you have used it you'll soon realise you do need the area on the top of the bat. With a splice there the top 4" or so are dead. The way we do it only the top 1" is.

Also you get a lot of vibration through the handle with a splice, with a normal bat you don't get this as the splice is close to your hands meaning the bat isn't coming through as fast. With your hands further away from the blade the bat swings through quicker. Catching the ball on the splice means you get an increased number of vibrations through there the rubber grip acts as a slight dampener to this.

Have a go anyway and see what you think, we produced both bats spliced blade and spliceless. We've also experimented handling in a number of ways. A spliced blade is the easier, cheaper and quicker option but we chose not to use it.

Okay Tom, I understand what you're saying, but honestly, I have been shocked at how much this bat is pinging off the ball (in the sock).

Yes, but, if you look at the positioning of your splice on the New Fusion and see how it translates onto a regular bat. You may hit a few in that area on a regular bat and it would be ok, but on the New Fusion this area is taken up by the splice.

Also, as a 15 year old, 'still learning your game'. It may have been best to stick with a regular bat.
