Old Balls For throwdowns

How old is an old ball to become unfit for throwdowns.

The reason ,
Recently I was facing a few spinners with the last seasons remaining old balls from the kit, but they feel like stone although  they are not worn out much. They did a lot of damage to my new kocked in bat.

By damage I mean, that they did small dents on few areas  and a surface crack near the toe. It has a scuff sheet too.

I think i ave knocked it properly. But still if its not knocked , i need to know more about using old balls and when to say good bye to them. Few more things like if the ball was wet during last seasons match and now dry, is it still good ?

Surface cracks are nothing to worry about, if balls dent the bat it needs more knocking in, it's not the ball doing it, and if the ball is still in shape now it's dry then it's fine.

So it means a wet ball once it gets dry is again ready to use for nets.  Generally the perception is that when the ball is wet it become hard.

We've never had a problem with them after they got wet at our club but up to you mate.
If you don't want to use them once they're dried out send them my way  ;)
