A Somerset Make Cricket Bat Company: Macer Cricket
« on: May 02, 2013, 08:12:10 PM »

Hi Guys,

My school is located in Somerset and one of the coaches are good friends with the guy who started this brand: Macer Cricket
Some of you may not have heard of it but it is quite popular in Somerset and the bat are cheap and have amazing performance with it. So I have decided to get myself a macer, it is normally 250 quid but they gave me a discount of 20% which makes it 200 quid. It is a Macer Vortex Elite bat but with Codex Elite sticker on, it have some heartwood on the inside edge of the bat ( since I am a RHB) It got 12 straight grains which look extremely nice. I have put a cover sheet and have double grip for it. It has about 40mm edge size for a 2lb 10oz which doesn't feels like 2lb 10, it feels more like 2lb 8oz. Anyway the bat are absolutely a beauty and after knocking it in for 6 hours I have went for a hit using the merlyn today and it sound absolutely lovely. The PING are amazing and it go miles. I then went to outdoor net for a net session for 1 hour doing all sort of batting with the bat and since it is still the start of season, I am still not in the best shape yet but still connect with a few shots and the ball absolutely go milessss.

Anyway I got a few picture here of the bat after me using it for a while. Enjoy:)

They can't be THAT popular in Somerset, I've never ever seen one! THey look alright.... absolutely nothing special, not a huge fan of the shape. Are they hand made or imported?

I played against John Bishop the guy who owns the company on Saturday in our annual pre-season friendly with his side - almost all of the opposing team had Macer gear and it looks good quality I must say.

He was saying that a lot of the Bridgwater players have them for this season and that he's sold dozens to the Millfield students.

Just checked out the Facebook page and the softs don't look bad and he seems to have two different bat profiles at all. The bats on the Facebook page don't look like typical Indian bat profiles so would be interesting to know where he sources them from.

They look very Champ made to me. The grips are ones made by champ and also the bow on the bat is very similar to a champ bat

My son and his friend were unfortunate enough to buy this guys kit, bat ,pads gloves etc...
From what I've since learned, he initially sold some excellent bats, to build awareness , but then the quality of bats, dropped considerably.

My sons is an overweight plank of a bat, his friends bat actually split

Just leaves a bit of a sour taste, ,as he charged em £250 for the gear,(not a fortune, I know)

It could just be sheer coincidence that they both got poor bats?
But, I'm hoping to 'bump' into him this year, and ask him about it

Can you not call him and see what his response his?

Even the best brand goods can break but you have to give him a chance to do something about it.

Sponsored??
Yeah, they got told they were sponsored
He gave them a 20% discount,,,,

I do hope they were just a one off couple of sh£te bats, as there's enough people out there, busting their balls to make a go of bat making, , ,without someone trying to make a fast buck, from selling planks
