Just a question if I may please. Does everyone take their new bat after knocking straight into pacers nets or do you genuinely have throw downs and spinners net alone for a few sessions ?. Thanks

Once the bat is knocked in by hand properly I just use it. It's either ready or it isn't. The bat will improve over time but it will only improve if you use it normally. No point being gentle or 'protecting' it in any way. Knock it in and use it.... ;)

I haven't used a new bat in the nets for a long time and is itching to dive straight into the pacers nets. Guess I will have to follow your advice Pedals  :D. Thanks.

I’d agree. Knock in the edges thoroughly so as not to cause irreversible damage, knock the middle in as much as you can but only real way of knowing if it’s prepared is if the balls leave seam indentations (which means it needs some more pressing/ knocking in). Don’t be shy in tell the pacers to use soft balls.

I know I shouldn't have but too my brand new bat out to the middle on Saturday. Hit it less than 10 times pretty hard with a mallet and no indentation was made whatsoever so went with it. Held up fine with the new ball, no dents/cracks anything.

It's as much about having confidence in your knocking-in as anything.

Once the new bat has a few dings and marks you worry a lot less.

I enjoy the first few quick nets/games. It's almost as if the bowlers are getting the first thrashing from your new bat.
