The worst cricket grounds you have played at?
« on: May 14, 2013, 03:32:26 PM »

We all have our favourites, but also the ground's we hate playing at, without being too demeaning to the club's that use those, what is you're least favourite, and for what reasons.

Braybrooke.

Those poles you can see round the square hold barbed wire fencing which keep the cattle that roam the outfield during the week off the tracks. The poles are removed for matches, leaving huge square holes around the square.

Outfield is very long despite the cattles best efforts.

One plus point was a pretty good tea when i went. It wasn't enough to tempt me back for a second visit this season however

Long Clawson,

Sheep herd on the outfield.

There is a metal drain in the bowlers run up. This means bowlers either risk slipping on this and breaking their leg, shortening their run up or coming in from an angle.

The pavilion is a mobile cabin which only has 1 door, the away team exit via the window.

Erm, Newbery.  Has to be - aside from the long journey, the wicket is terrible, the outfield pretty ropey and the pavilion soulless (and with frogs in the showers!)

Not sure I can think of any others, though there are plenty in the Middlesex Championship.

I used to play at Beddo.  Agree to some extent, however, the people were great and had a fun time there. Places like Old Emanuel on the A3 (however, had one of the best teas when Gaylord (RIP) was doing them), Ashford (Surrey / Middlesex - Just by Heathrow) and Bognor (On a windy day - however, a great tea though) are up there with the most unenjoyable pitches I've played at.

Hounslow use to a great place for plane spotting.  The planes were queued up over your head. I think they folded.

Charfield is a horrible ground. Haven't played where Bedminster 3s have unless it's the bottom pitch from their 1s?

Tetbury is also a vile place to place

For me there are a couple,

Leicestershire County Council's ground (next to their officies).  The most abrasive wicket I've played on.  In a 20/20 work friendly the first ball looked like my dogs had had a go at it!!  the bounce was amazingly erratic.  I was umpiring at square and two balls pitching about the same length  - one went by shoulder height, the other almost yorker height (it was a good-full lenght as well).  I also got out first ball to a length ball, that I gloved behind with the gloves infront of my face (while stood up straight!!!)

That any a couple of Nottingham council park grounds where the crease's are about 6inches higher than the middle of the wicket... It's like playing on a non-european union regulated bannana  :D
