During the forum downtime I've managed to acquire this off of a family friend. Genuinely cannot believe how lovely it is.
A few of you will know, I've wanted a vintage scoop for a long time now.

Not sure about the weight, but it's very light. Response is out of this world, really is gorgeous.

Pictures are here, and I'm sure you'll agree it's a lovely example.

Anyone have any idea of age?

I think these were around sometime in the late 80's I believe mate, maybe wrong though. Looks a lovely stick, would look brand new with a proper refurb mate.

I remember Chris Tavare using these in the 80's. It go's back as long as I can recall, I'm 41 you know.

I've got some Wisden's from that era. I'll check the adverts and see what I can find.

I don't know whether to refurb it and make it look new, or keep it's character like it is. It's a toughie, think I shall leave it how it is though.

The earliest Wisden I can find is October 1983.

I'll post a few pics from it another time, but........

Romida Sports of Oldham in Lancs advertised the GN 100 5* Probalance for �54.40 with a RRP of �67.99. That was the top of the range model. Others included; Superlite, Supershort, Powerline (with a nylon covering so I assume that was a G3 at best).

Don't refurb it!

Jeepers, leave it as is. A refurb is like using a 2005 Grand Cru Margeaux as a cooking wine!

Definitely going to leave it as it is mate. Was debating it, but it wouldn't be the same if I did.

When I was playing as a junior at Walsall in 1977 a few of the 1st team had this new bat with the back scooped out and big edges. That's my earliest memory of them.
Top acquisition Tom, there's been a few on ebay vintage cricket recently but nowhere near as good as this one

It's up there in response terms as well as the sheer good looks!

Be interesting if the GN guy on here could give me a date from the shoulder markings. It's also got the stamp on the shop it was bought from under the front sticker

My older brother had one of these, it's in the garage at my parents house with massive dents in the back where my nephew hits the stumps in the ground

Mst say I agree, leave the original stickers etc on as it generally looks in good order, just a nice sand and a light oil to bring out what look like lovely grains.

It's late 70s / very early 80s

GN started using the bright red labels in 76/77, previously they had used a maroon colour. In 83, they changed the logo for the bat and started officially calling it the scoop, previously the offical name was GN100 Perimeter Weighted (as yours is) The scoop was the nickname everyone gave it, and eventually GN stated using it as the offical name.
