When opening and facing swinging delivers, I tend to stand about two feet from the crease on middle and leg and make sure the Umpire is aware of how far I am standing. It has saved me getting out LBW a few times.

I have had a thought of taking Off Guard to block the vision of keeper standing up when facing slower bowlers.

I take middle but my back and across trigger takes me to off which means I hardly ever get bowled. If you get bowled you're walking straight off but umpires can save you if it hits the pads.

Also some bowlers look at off stump so my pad often gets in their eyeline and puts them off (or so I've been told).

If you have a trigger that sees you in front of off stump before the bowler is delivering then you have a very very early trigger...

If you are standing in front of all 3 then my experience of umpiring is they will stiff you whether it is going to hit or not.

I much 'prefer' being bowled, at least I only have myself to blame.

I bat on middle and at the start of my innings i scratch away after everyball, sometimes followin a stroll to square leg and i check with the umpire at the start of everyover throughout my innings, when i feel comfortable the ball by ball scrathcing become once an over, its not something i think about though and i sort of just do it

I used to do the same, but one year on tour i got ripped to shreds for it, made me realise it was a bit excessive. At least i got a few that day. No point changing if it works for you though!

I take leg stump with a small trigger movement. In regards to taking my guard, I scrape away at the end of the over. Not really sure why or when this started, but I like the routine it brings.

I mark middle, and my back foot sits on that in my set up.  My front foot sits wider, probably on leg, and triggers to middle as the bowler gets level with the umpire.  If an off spinner is bowling over the wicket, I'll tend to move across to middle & off or off, depending on how much it's turning and how accurate he is. Leggies, left armers or right arm round, I'll move back to middle & leg.

I take leg and stick my back leg on it. Means I play and miss with a few daft shots outside off but I used to have a habit of being caught plumb in front too much batting on middle (cause I'm crap off my pads/outside leg!) so I changed it. Anything on my legs I can now have a silly waft at without the fear of being triggered. I do like to have a scratch at my guard inbetween balls but only because normally the oppo's chat is so dull I don't wanna put up with it!

personaly i bat on leg stump all the time with a slighlty open stance, done this to make sure i dont plant the front foot and play around the pad, used this for about 2 years and has cut down the amount of times if been LBW quite a bit

I have got to try this...been out now lbw in 2 out of 3 games...thanks for the tip

i strut to the crease everybody knows the big dog is in town!

i take my bat and put it in front of middle stump i slide it in a straight line backwards towards the crease.

i then glance at the umpire

"center please"

"that is center"

i then make a little mark with the toe of the bat...

my right foot plants on the line my bat has created and drags a big spike down the track. making my mark on middle.

this is where the magic happens. ....

I take middle stump guard probably makes no difference to me, apart from knowing where i can leave outside off.

This is probably true for me. I take middle purely because it brings bowlers onto my pads and into my driving zone and I can leave really well. I am toying with going to a middle/off guard for 'spinners' and leg for leggies though. Not sure what guard I fancy trying for left arm over spinners or seam yet though. I'll probably have to work that out in the netsl.s

I take two, but use that to line up my outside edge, with  my body just outside the line of leg.  Reason?  I'm tall and I know from there that I can lean forward and get outside the line of off stump, making my defensive technique sound.
