Sitting watching the Eng Nz ODI and I just can't help being bored. Does anyone else think this form of cricket is missing something.

I love test match cricket, I love that you don't need to pay constant attention and that you can watch it throughout the day. I always find if I stop watching an ODI for an hour then I have missed the best bit of the game.

I also dislike watching T20 due to the lack of cricket shots and the attitude batsman have of not caring about their wicket which I think teaches younger players the wrong attitude.

Opinions please.

I find the middle overs of ODIs can sometimes be very dull. The starts and ends are usually exciting, but the middle overs can sometimes turn into mini test matches with the batsmen just prodding and nurdling about. Not sure exactly what could be changed to make it more exciting though. Some change to power plays maybe?

I think there was some discussion about having two T20 innings instead of a single 50 over inning somewhere. may be just to make things interesting.

OMG, that sounds horrendous. However, I'm not a fan of T20 as it's just slogger cricket and even ODI's are a little boring. Defo Test matches are the top level for me. Just look at the likes of Warner, Maxwell and co.. tremendous T20 sloggers but crap (or at least no more than average) test match players. I also can't imagine McGrath and Warne would have been as good as they were if they'd just played loads of T20 crap.

I don't mind T20 cricket, if only because my missus actually enjoys it now and she likes to sit and watch it with me. But I'm a purist - give me test cricket all day, and more tomorrow please. 50 over cricket I can take or leave.

T20 cricket has given birth to a new type of a player though in opinion. When was the last youngster that came through with a classic technique. Bairstow, Morgan, Buttler etc are all the result of T20 cricket in my opinion. Probably more.

Root is maybe the closest we have to a classic player, but still has the ability to open a test match given recent revelations

I would have said Cook but he's more established now, and not a classic T20 player regards his technique

Cripes.....with all the talk of the recent ODIs and the Ashes, I forgot there are one or two T20 matches starting with the Oval this evening!
Squad looks interesting with KP possibly playing?
Morgan, Ballance, Bopara, Briggs, Buttler, Dernbach, Hales, Lumb, KP, Rankin, Stokes, Treadwell, Woakes, Wright is the squad.

Picking 11 from 14...I suspect that Ballance, Briggs and Stokes could be the ones to miss out?

Run rates in Test matches have gone up significantly as a result of ODI and T20 cricket. Trotty and Cook have improved their shorter form of the game and are the most dependable ODI batsmen now and can score quicker in Tests when required. There is definately a positive impact with many Test hundreds being scored at more than a run a ball.
