Any level 3 coaches?
« on: June 07, 2013, 11:14:53 AM »

Are there any level 3 coaches on here? How did you apply foir it, and what were you doing to make sure you got it? Somerset are horrendous for CPD, you can only coach county if you're a level 3, and they'll only put you on a level 3 if you're coaching county...... Go figure!

Have you tried to apply for the club coach award not sure if its run all over the country but it's a stepping stone course to level 3

Had that for ages mate! I know the pathway to it, just wondered what people have done to get on it. I know they like coaches ot be working with county squads, but to do that you ironically need a level 3.

Yes - i am a level three.  Did mine about ten years ago now, basically got recommended for it one the Level two course, and then attended a pre-level three assessment day.  Its all changed a bit though now!

Speak to the chap who decides who goes on the course.

Not sure where your at in terms of information,  or who you've spoken too,  or how your board works,  etc,  etc.

In Northamptonshire,  you would basically need to speak to the "cricket board manager"   or whatever they might be called.  Here this chap is they guy that runs/overseas all the age group sides,  and all the local clubs.

It used to be that there was a limit on the number of people they could put forward each year,  and it was not very many either,  like 2 or 3. Figure that one of those places will likely be for some one from the county (I. E a player etc)  and that why it's so hard to get a place.

Try and get into see the bloke is all I can say,  but your going to need a good body of evidence to justify your claim to a place.

It might seriously help your case if you get involved with girls cricket.  The boards have some ridiculous targets to try and reach,  and so they tend to look very positively on such things.

I don't know why it's so hard to get on the course,  it's (No Swearing Please) (No Swearing Please).

The problem is that there are a very limited number of places, allied to there also being a very limited number of people who are prepared to give up the amount of time necessary to coach county age group sides - for which there is, in most cases, no remuneration and expenses only if you are incredibly fortunate.   That being the case, given that as Ross notes there is a preponderance of current players wanting to do their badges, your chances are very slim.

Its tough, I know, but you can sort of see their rationale in that of course they are going to want to develop the people who are working for or going to volunteer for them!  To be fair, the 2.5 is pretty much good enough for most roles.

Oh mate, you would not believe how much I have tried to volunteer to enhance my CV. I'm not wishing to sound like I'm whinging too much, but when you can't even get work experience (i.e. volunteer for the board) then what chance is there? Trust me, if I could I would be volunteering for Somerset 5 evenings a week!

Rant over!

As it sounds, several people in there seemed to have coaching experience.(edit- I don't know if level 3 or not) I don't have any so I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong. It certainly wasnt a personal dig at you if that's how you've taken it.

I think Nicks point is that its customy to have at least some understanding of what the thread is about, your comment in context of the discusions above is meaningless and unhelpful - I dont think he was offened!
