Astra Turf and coconut matt technique
« on: June 12, 2013, 10:06:44 AM »

Hi,

I play my club cricket here in Finland. I have played a lot of my club cricket in India on Coconut matts.

The national ground here in Finland has a astra turf on a cement patch.
So it has some good bounce for both spinners and fast bowlers. Is there any specific adjustments you need to make with the astra turf on a cement patch?

It would be great to hear some opinions on this.
I also have noticed that it doesnt seam much on Astra turf compared to coconut matts.
Is it really so ?

I made the switch for damp green wickets in Scotland to concrete astro's in Oslo, i found I could adapt my bowling pretty quickly (i am mainly a bowler) but even after 2 season I still struggle with the bat. I think my main issue is playing the ball too early rather than under my eyes.

A tip I would be suggest is to bowl a touch fuller on astroturf, because you get minimum seam on astroturf and you don't want to be bowling too short as it will just come on for the batsmen without any sideways movement.

Not when put on a sand ground. This astra turf is laid on a concrete patch. It shoots off good length.
I think I have made the adjustment in batting.

What about bowling?

I do agree with you on this. It just sits up to be hit sometimes when you lack pace like I do.  :(
