Mid Season Review
« on: June 28, 2013, 10:00:24 AM »

Coming to the end of June and it would be interesting to hear players stats and assessments of how the season has gone so far. Also interesting to see how the bats have performed and what objectives everybody has for the second half of the season. Who's going to kick off?

Well, I've moved to a new club and been made 4th XI skipper (Noone else wanted to do it) .  I started off the first couple of games at the top of the order and didn't really make any runs, since dropping down to 4, I've been consistently scoring 20s and 30s without really going on to make a big score (Mainly because I keep getting myself out!).  Still looking for my first ever 50, so that's the aim for the rest of the season.

Year   Games Inns   NO   Runs   High   Avg   50   100   4s   6s   Ducks   %Team Runs

2013   5       5    1    104    42*   26    0    0    0    0    0    11.8

(I play Sunday 3rd/4th team cricket) Well only played 5 games, after coming back into cricket in the last 2 years I have not hit higher than 27 until this year. My average has been in single figure and I have always been batting from 5-down.

This year after work in the nets the batting has got better, but I have to be settled to play some shots. I was asked to open the batting in the first game and have come in at 3-4 since. This has allowed me to have time at the crease and support a more shot playing batsman while Im at the other end. My SR is around 50 or less.  For me this is so far a good season of cricket and as soon as I stop my early overs cross batting I will hopefully be able to improve on this next year.

So not the best, but a massive improvement for myself.

Still looking for my first ever 50, so that's the aim for the rest of the season.

Also have to agree with this. My 42* was may best chance to date after feeling set in my 30's, but still hit the winning runs so I can't complain too much.

Also good luck for the rest of the season the 50 will come.

I'm only playing Sundays this season and it's been going really well with the bat but fairly poorly with the ball. As a few of you will know I killed my Chase in winter nets so Pete stepped up and offered me an enormous 2.9 TK Pro that had been his match bat the previous year. It's gone well! 40+mm edges, no concaving, big middle, it's nice and light and the pickup is great. I'm averaging 46 this season which is my best for a few years so I'm pretty happy. Bowling, usually my strong suit, has gone a bit wrong. I'm a SLA bowler but all I seem to be doing is bowling arm balls these days. Good arm balls, but the spin I have always relied upon seems to have disappeared a bit. I can still turn the ball but just not as much as I used to. I think breaking my left wrist in the winter is probably part of the problem.....2 wickets all season and I have been the top wicket taker for my club for the last 3 seasons....!

Overall I'm pretty happy with the batting and a bit disappointed with the bowling. Just a shame the weather is so awful yet again....makes it hard to get into any rhythm.

Top score :- 78* best bowling 2-29 (in my 6th game!)

My highest score was 43* chasing 75 a couple of years ago.  I was about 35* when we were on 50 and told the kid at the other end to let me get the runs as I'd never scored a 50.  Little git proceeded to pinch the strike and score most of the rest of the runs.  Wasn't happy!

I tend to get into the 20s, 30s feeling set and that the bowling can't get me out, then play a stupid shot or get one of those magic balls that you can't do anything about!

Same to you bud.  I have good memoies of the ground I'm playing at tomorrow, so hopefully can get some luck there!

My stats so far this season;

Matches   Innings   Runs   Balls (ish)   4's   6's
11           9              102        107          14            3

Average      12.75
Strike Rate ~      95.3271028
High Score      30

Last season I got 9 innings in total (in 10 matches) because of the rain.  I scored 59 runs at a ave of approx 6 - so I've improved to some degree.

Roughly 72% of my runs come in boundarys... :-[
I normally come in ~6, but have been 3 to 9 as well.
This is only my 2nd year back after a 15yr hiatus so I'm enjoying it.  Playing 2nds level for my village

I'm only playing Sunday's at the moment - and with the exception of our tour (scores don't count due to excessive boozing) I've got the following:

5 inns 1 no    135 runs    84 highest   33.75 ave

The 84 was one of my best knocks for sometime, going in at 4-2, which rapidly became 8-3. We ended up on 213 off our 35 which we would have taken after the first couple of overs! Stick in the fact one dismissal was a suicidal run out and the other given C&B off a blatant bump ball I've been quite happy so far...

But somehow I've taken 12 wickets at 11.71, including my first 5 for since 2003. A reinvention!

average so far for me. scored around 600 runs in total across 18 innings. top score of 68. 4 50s and far too many starts (30s and 40s) that havent been converted.

was vice captain of our ones but now captain as the original skipper stood down. So much hard work as people want to pick and choose where they play and throw a strop if you need a 2s player to come up - none of the 2s want to play in the ones. ridiculous set up at present. will be a struggle for the rest of the season with the potential of just a single side on both saturdays and sundays  for next year if things continue how they are.

as a team we have started very slowly struggling to get the right results. narrowly missed promotion last 2 years but down lower half of the table this year. 2 wins in 2 weeks as skipper and we are moving up but far from safe. consolidation this year i feel!

For my club, 650 runs at 54 with two tons, for the civil service side 700 ish at a tad over 70 with three tons.  Which means I've scored nearly as many runs as I've dropped catches!

Not sure what my plans for the second half of the season are going to be like though as I managed a triple dislocation and double fracture of my right pinkie in a T20 on Wednesday so surgery looms!!! :(
