On Saturday, whilst batting, I had run a single, started going for a second and realised it wasn't on.  I turned to get back in my ground, and at this point twisted my knee and went down like a sack of s**t, in a lot of pain.  I'm about 2 feet short of the line and clearly injured.  I know I can still be run out, but I'm still fuming about it.  In my view, it's just not cricket running out someone who has gone down injured in the middle of the pitch

Tough call - did they know you were injured? would you absolutely certainly have made it back if you hadn't injured yourself? how is it different from the batsman who slips and falls a la Fat Sammy?

It's unfortunate but unless it's immediately obvious you are injured then in League cricket you are fair game. Friendlies, not so much but I tweaked a hammy mid pitch a few years ago and was run out by a mile in a friendly. To be honest I would of been no use even if they had called me back.

I would've made it back if I hadn't injured myself.  Considering the loud yelp I let out when I went down and started clutching at my knee, I should hope someone noticed.  It isn't much different to slipping over I guess, both bits of bad luck granted. I guess the question is, do you take advantage of a man that is down injured?

I doubt many would notice until the bails are taken off, then it's a matter for the fielding captain. League game I'd say tough luck and send you on your way. Friendly, I'd see if you were on the edge of death / shot / a bloody useless batsman and then consider calling you back if you fitted those criteria.

If someone had started to walk out with a 'humane killer' in their hand then you've got a problem.

Running you out was probably inevitable in a league game. A friendly, well if you'd scored a stack load and where seeing it like a beach ball then you're going to get gone.

If they don't run you out then you owe a beer or two.

I feel in a league game it is a fair shout to run you out. It is unfortunate but would be done in my team all day long.

got to say I think its a fair shout too - you fell and injured yourself and admit that it would be fair to have run you out for the fall, so I guess the injury is pretty much incidental.

Have to agree - being a league game I would have run you too, and dont think anything wrong has been done.

if u was running and got hurt id run you out! no question.

but if u was hit by the ball and out of your crease etc i wouldnt.

I'm in agreement with most. In a league game, you go for the run out and ask the batsman whether they are okay later. Most involved aren't going to notice whether you made a noise as they are caught up in the fact you slipped.

Friendly, I think it might be different.

I'd run you out and send you on your way... I'd also show false concern for your injury

I personally would have ran you out, but upon seeing someone genuinely injured (so the yelp immediately rather than a delayed potential fake) would have meant I'd have called you back (ie withdrew the appeal). Basically although I want to win I'd hope people still play in the spirit and not win at all costs.

It would be balanced against how genuine the injury appeared though as I'm sure some of the less able/lazy/less fit could otherwise fake injuries.
