Repair needed
« on: July 05, 2013, 08:02:44 AM »

Morning, a teammates bat last night was not sounding right. Upon inspection the handle looked (No Swearing Please). He likes the bat and would like to see it back in action. I am not sure what would need doing and if it would work, maybe a re-handle and then some work on the toe? If a re-handle would work he maybe happy with just that. Could some of the batmakers please give me a price via pm.

Thanks, I have uploaded a video as the pictures were not showing anything, hopefully this helps

Nice bit of putty/ filler  :D

I would say that it could do with a new handle, reason being that you could get in to repair the crack better and to see the full extent of the shoulder damage. I'd also repair the "ears" using a spare bit of willow once a new handle was fitted. Then i'd also recommend that the shoulder is pinned.

moving on to the toe, i'd look to glue that and if wood was missing from the bottom corner i'd cut a clean section out and glue in a new bit of willow and trim once dried. I'd also probably bind the toe and shoulder too for extra support.

I would have bought a new bat, but he "likes" this one and can't really afford a new bat, but then again the cost of repair may not be far off. (depending what bat he wants)

Thinkits best to get a new bat or re-handel
How would dowel and glue work?
Don't think it would hold up though.

The wooden dowel works by holding the two pieces together and stopping the crack from getting any bigger. You basically drill a hole into the lowest point and then pour glue down the hole before hammering in the dowel. leave to dry then trim and sand.

Something like this...

Isn't it just a nice excuse to get a new bat?
