New Mods
« on: July 11, 2013, 11:44:27 AM »

Good morning all...

In the past we have been criticised for not asking for nominations for a new moderator. So in the spirit of openness we are asking for nominations for probably two new moderators - one we would like to be in Aus or New Zealand.

Please no self nomination.  Self nominations now allowed... (don't all email at once!!)

Those with suggestions please PM me or another of the Admin team.

You have until close of play on Monday to make your nominations

Roll will include -
Looking after the forum
editing wayward posts
creating interesting topics (sometihng for all!!)
Reviewing/approving for sale topics
Reviewing/approving new members
Reviewing/approving possible new sponsors

agreeing with everything I say/think not required.

IMO nominations don't work.

The guys that are best for the Job won't get nominated. And 90% of those that do, won't be interested in being mods.
The other 10% will far from mod material.

Let people apply, and pick the best from a group you know wants the job

I do agree with Chris. I would love to put my name forward but doubt I will be nominated by anyone just on the basis that I do not know any people outside of this forum or play in the leagues that most of the people on this forum do.

I think it would be better to ask for people to put there names forward and then be asked to answer a number of questions on how you would deal with certain situations etc. These answers could even be made public and a vote done at this points.

Just my opinion.

What exactly will a moderator involve doing Sir Buzz?

I'm curious

I think if you are going to have moderators you require people that have been here for a good length of time and are active often. Even if they do not post on a continuous basis.

Also a good tolerance for drink and a heightened level of responsibility might help!

Except for the requirement of creating new topics (something for all) I think i would be ok to do this. Let me know if I am considered.

Fattuscattus should be the only one assigned with creating new topics from here, only requirement being a healthy dose of drink before any topic is created but strictly no pics allowed from Fattus

From past experience I can confirm that asking for nominations and giving anyone a vote or veto just leads to disaster!  Or at least, petty squabbles that drive people away in droves.

I personally would be up for putting my name forward, However I am aware it is a nomination process.

Out of interest current mods how much time do you estimate you spend moderating on here a week?

might be useful for people to see if they can fit it in their lives.

tricky one as you can go days without doing any modding and then spend several hours sorting out a major issue (mis-selling, warnings/bans) over a relatively short period of time (2/3 days). However much of that time you are normally on the forum anyway, so it's not dedicated time as such.

Ill add moderating can be hard work. Depending on how many the forum has it is daunting the amount of editing one day can need.

I think nominations are a good idea but it might be time saving if members who are interested put their hand up to let those nominating know that they are willing and available .

P.S As an Aussie I don't mind putting my hand up

but why don't the forum moderators get together and choose the worthy people
