Number 11's smashing it about
« on: July 11, 2013, 08:27:15 PM »

So after watching that young Aussie Agar ruining my afternoon by smashing our attack all over Nottingham it got me thinking how many times in the average players standard does No11 come in and smash it about or take there team to a good score like te Aussies now have.

I mean genuine No11's by the way not reversed batting lie ups or injured batsmen I mean the rabbit of your side playing a blinder.

The best I have seen and checked via play cricket was in 2006 when our no11 scored 42 and No10 67 to add 104 for final wicket and took us to 250 as a team. From memory the ball went in places no top order player could put the all too lol.

In the record books yes he is.

In all honesty at 19 yrs old, first test and in an ashes test yes he is a No11. No Chris Martin but a genuine No11 at the moment but probably not for much longer.

He's not a genuine 11 at all he showed that today. 19 years old or not the lad an bat. Like they said on commentary or time today, sachin was 16 when he debuted batting 6. Fair enough he's one of the best there has ever been but its shoes that age really is a number. He seems to have a level head on his shoulders seemed intelligent and calm. He could bat 8 second inning without a doubt. Showed a better range of shots that you would see from diddle and he's no mug with the bat

Fair point but interested to see what happens not so much in the 2nd innings but if he is picked for the whole series etc what he scores plays like. History books have loads of one hit wonders and now he has been thrown into the lime light lots of people will have seen him and will now have a plan to him.

I suppose so mate yeah. All we can do is look at what we know. He's batted really well today. Didn't look an 11 that was just hitting out. Played good cricket shots.
He bats 8 for western aus and has a first class average of 30 odd I am reliably informed. Fair enough he's only played 10 shield games. But no Schmuck going off that

I think its too early to have a plan to him, didn't show a real weakness yet,  not that he's perfect but you really would need 3/4 tests to see a pattern.  Don't think he'll repeat the feat but certainly looks good enough to chip in with vital lower order runs through the series

Has anyone seen a better innings from a number 11 playing Test cricket? Spellbinding stuff!
The crowd was more disappointed than he was that he missed a ton.

Could you imagine the headlines and media frenzy if a 19 year old kid did this on debut for England batting at Jack? Well it wouldt happen as England wouldn never have made a call like that.

Call was made to pick him because Australia were in a state before and they had nothing to lose.

England did it once, with pattinson. Failed miserable though. His brother is doing well though.

Agar has scored just under 400 runs first calls in 11 games, at an average of 39.5. Including 2 59s. Definately no mug with the bat.

I was pretty gutted for Tino, he is a great character and an entertainer. While Tino has been around forever this lad was on debut ... think about it .... on an Ashes tour ... thats mental!
If his bowling improves he will be around for a while.

That's gotta give him a better average than most of the Aussie batsmen over the past year or so :o.

Just heard he's at Hampshire academy as well. When Bailey left us for the champions trophy , why didn't we just pick up him  :-[?
