I've tried using a heavy bat for the first half of a net and swapping half way through to see if there is much of a difference. I've seen baseball players swing two/three bats together before going out to bat. However the major difference between a baseball player and a cricket player doesn't have to deal with variable bounce and spin/sideways movement. I found a heavy bat just restricted what shots I could play. I found myself not really using sideways shots like the sweep and pull and tended to hang around on the front foot. If this is your aim then it's good to try. I don't believe it affects your timing if you're watching the ball closely.
