Ideas for a new bat
« on: July 17, 2013, 07:56:48 PM »

Hi,
I'm currently looking at getting a new bat, as the toe of my current bat is cracking from impact and also has began to flake away as the toe did not dry correctly after palying a game in very wet conditions. I currently have had a H4L 666 for 3 seasons, last season I had it refurbished by Salix where I also had weight taken off it from 2lb 14oz to 2lb 12oz. I am looking for another bat that at first I will knock in for a few months, then I will start to use it in games, I will keep my H4L/Salix and use it in training to make my new bat last for as long as possible.

I am looking for a handmade bat from a reasonably well known company like Newbery, Salix, Willo Stix, Warsop, Woodstock etc

Any ideas???

Thanks

Well you can count out Willostix and Woodstock if you want hand made as neither of these hand make there bats themselves.  I am biased but Salix would be my recommendation warsop & Newbery both make lovely bats as well. My Warsop is coming on ver very well

Any reason you want a well known brand bat rather than anything a forum sponsor could offer? Woodstocks have had mixed reviews, plenty good and plenty not so. All the others have a great reputation.

Yes that one is very much hand made I will give you that, nothing to do with Willostix though. Actually not true they apply the stickers.

I'm lost on this not making your own bats argument. Fair enough if it is bought from India and stickers applied or a job lot of bats bought from Mr K and stickers applied but what if the company did everything else.

I think you mixing up owners being bat makers with a company making their own bats. Every bat company other than the one man bands hire someone to make the bat whether it is outsourced or by an employee.

GN owners don't make the bats they employ someone but they do everything else so do GN make or not make their own bats based on your argument?

I'd recommend hawk - they make great bats that are very pinky!

What Budget you working with as well.
As there are plenty around a few guys at my club have B3's alright not entirely hand made but have good reviews and priced well, or I myself have a Vantage Lithium again very nice bat good Profile and great middle, Or a Rob Pack/Blue Room Bat as you won't be dissappointed with any of these.

The choice as they say is yours!!!!!!!!!

I'd have thought H4L would be worth considering if your current one has done okay?

All good choices. If you want a UK made Willostix, make sure it's a Spitfire.
