My Gray Nicolls X181
« on: July 23, 2013, 06:22:01 PM »

Hi Guys just wanted to share pics of my new Gray Nicolls X181 bat that Jake at Vitas got for me. I first saw this bat when someone posted pics of this and ,the new Kaboom early in the year and I tried to get one the through GN but wasn't able to.

When Jake said these were available I jumped at the chance and Jake said he would speak to the rep when he went to the 2014 kit show earlier this month. I asked for a light weight bat with good straight grains and Jake has delivered. This is the 2nd purchase I have made through Jake this year and I have been very pleased when dealing with him. The bat has been knocked in by Jake and pinging an old ball is very very impressive indeed. The bat weight 2.8 point 4 and I know is light but the pick up is like a 2.6 or less. The ba5 is well concaved with 37mm edges. Tis is called the 181 due to having a 181mm sweet spot. It has a spine that runs from the toe all the way up and from pinging the ball is very responsive low down and also high up the blade.

Also ordered some oblivion test pads and x181 gloves that I am waiting to come into stock. For the time being here are some pics of the bat.

the Australian bats, x181 and Kaboom are available now for the Ashes. The full 2014 range will be as normal, October/November.

Looks a bigger unit than i remember in the flesh, bloody huge!

Bat looks to be a belter..........However, i'm more concerned about his choice of pink slipper in the background! Have you got the other one on?  ;)

Are these x181 bats actually made in Australia or at gn in uk, I imported a x181 1200sr from Australia when they were first released in Australia and mines a totally different shape and has less concaving too. I'd love another one tho as I've just started using mine and I am very impressed!!! I wouldn't want to pay the customs charges again tho!!

Sorry it's off topic, Jake what are your thoughts on the Kaboom?

I saw a Kaboom Dave Waner Signature that GN gave away as a prize on twitter, someone local won it. It was a cracker, a lovely shape not dissimilar to Chris's X181.
