I would also love to see Carberry in but when Gooch was asked, Taylor was the first name on his lips.....could that be a sign?

To me it's obvious, last guy out - Compton to fill in. Still think KP will be fit.

I also thought that he was seen as the replacement batsmen and hence they also ensured he got extra game time. I do enjoy watching Taylor bat though.

Would love to see Carberry get another chance , but on  the other hand I don't really want to see Hants missing him  :D. Slight problem in the fact that he's an opener , but I remember him coming in at 3 for some reason in a few matches over the past few years (Some of them could have been one dayers).

In all honesty though , I can see it either being Compton or Taylor. I'd feel so hard done by if I was Compton and didn't get the call up though to be honest! Also , I personally don't think Samit Patel will ever become England's first choice of spinner in test cricket. There's just so many young talents in that department out there right now , and unless he improves I don't see it happeneing.

I'd see that as a backward step, not quite a middle order player, and Taylor is the future, or someone of similar age anyway

Bumble going on abt 2 spinners with one being Root. From watching games at lancs this year then 3 spinners might well be a good plan. Works for India in India. They have been so flat that average batsmen have made good runs. Katich and Prince have scored heavily on the wickets.

Based on that drop Bresnan for Kerrigan and give Taylor or Carberry (its only short term and therefore age is not as important as form)

How fit do you think KP will need to be for the Selectors to pick him? I think they'd pick KP if he was at 70% and just have him stand somewhere.

In all honesty the way Australia have been batting they England only really need 10.

I would rather they rest him as for me its important we win the series in Australia. We will need our best batsmen fully fit and in my opinion KP is one of them.

I hope Taylor gets it, I'm a big fan of his.

Morgan I don't think is a suitable test player and since he tried to fit into the test style of batting his T20/ODI batting has suffered.

Carberry a good option, good bat who can turn the heat on should England want another biffing #4

Compton. Square peg round hole.

Big (hypotehtical) question: Taylor comes in and scores 156 in first innings, KP fit for 4th test. Who would you (and G.Miller) select?

You have to look at previous selections. The selectors take a measured approach and they won't change the make up of the side. They will go with swann and root and Taylor to come in if kp isn't fit.
i would put good money on Compton never playing for England again.

KP will be fit, if not they will chose JT but personally I'd want Carberry.

They would drop him in a heartbeat and praise his efforts. This England set up is a little more ruthless than before plus rightfully or wrongfully as every captain knows, it's easier to drop a youngster than a senior.

A lot of Carberry fans but in all honesty think he will never wear an England shirt again

He should have least got a look in for the ODI squad

What did he do Wrong again ??

I can see Bairstow getting dropped if that happens
