Back issues
« on: July 24, 2013, 07:25:36 PM »

Evening guys,

Here's the sit'ch.

I open the batting and should I get a score then go straight into keeping after often having to stand up to the stumps as our bowling isn't troubling. Being 6'1 not only does it affect my concentration but also leaves me in a fair bit of pain. I am only 19 but I feel like an old man already! Has anybody else had a problem like this and found a plan to combat it? Any help is appreciated. thanks in advance,
Patty

what is your stance and posture like?

is your back sore after a long net?

are you quite hunched at the crease?

Perhaps it's posture, or maybe work on your core strength? I found that working on my core strength and improving my general fitness intensively over a month allowed me bat in 20 minute net sessions without any ache at all. Now that I'm unfit again, it only takes about 15 minutes to get my back pretty sore! Making sure you do the right stretches will also help.

I'd go along with this. Strengthening your core will always support your back. A lot of back injuries tend to develop from weak abdominals

Could be linked to your stance. When batting in a game there is a longer break between deliveries where as a batting against a bowling machine, you tend to want the next ball straight away so your body may not have "straightened up" as it were in the usual way it does when playing a game?

Thought it was your thigh that was hurting! ;) It might be because you have time to stand straight in a match for a while, compose yourself then get ready, which will relax the back muscles. In nets, it's ball after ball, and you have less time inbetween balls, so the back muscles are being strained a little more.
