I was always told you wanted the harder heartwood on outside edge so the edge doesn't split if you edge off. I had a really good visit to Warsop on Friday in Essex and he told me that pros do this because they *don't* expect to edge it much, and heart wood is more brittle.
Any clarifications please?
BTW I would really recommend visiting Warsop. They are really old school bat makers, grow some of their own willow, and showed me some beautiful clefts. They also said they will make a custom in any shape required, I presume for the same price as their normal range. Some great looking bats on the shelves as well. I think it's a shame we don't see so much of them on the pro circuit, or can CBF members identify some players that use them? I didn't see any on the Essex line up when I watched them last year at Fenner's. Mostly GNs.
I did see one monster bat which was both long blade and long handle. Should be ideal for me size wise, but I didn't like the feel of it at all...
