I would put this down to luck more than a generalisation about the bats themselves.

Im sure the balls used by Pros and Joe public dont vary that much in hardness, willow is a natural product and as such susceptible to breaking at one time or another.

Pros use willow that is less dense than we get to lay our hands on meaning they get a larger bat in terms of volume of wood without it going up the scales in terms of finished weight.

if retailers were to sell bats made from  pros willow how much is the difference in price to a standard piece of willow we can buy

Thats down to each individual brand and their pricing policy as one brands Top of the range bat price will differ to another's.

Some pros will want performance and looks from a bat, others couldnt care less what they look like as long as they perform well and the profile suits their game.

We dont make bats but have supplied a few pros in our time, they were/are more than happy with just a stock bat that would have made its way onto the shelf to be sold to the public.

If your bat maker is worth its salt they will be doing a good enough job to offer the same level of attention to a bat regardless of whos hands its meant to end up in.

Typically they think they use a 2.8/9 that they then add 2 grips too and a scuff sheet that end up at 2.11-12 all in when walking out to the middle with!

Just received the order form. A little disappointed to be honest, as it is just an LE willow bat made to one of their 5 stock shapes... Powerbow, e41, Oblivion, Maverick and A61. I'm going to be getting an Oblivion e41 (hopefully) in LE willow at the end of the year, so it's pointless to get another stock shape. I should have probably asked about it first, but it was advertised like it could be made to all of your own specs, and should probably state that it's your own specs in an off the shelf profile... Asked if it's possible to go for a custom profile as a few pictures of the GN Aus Legend made me fall in love with that shape again, but doubt that they're going to offer that service, in which case I'll ask for my money back and buy one less bat! :-[

There's an advert in this months AOC magazine for this bat, has a discount code to get 20% off the price at checkout. Not tried it yet to see if it works. How would that make the price stack up vs a regular GN LE bat?

Yeah, wasn't expecting Legend bats at that price! Just a little gutted that it's one of those 5 stock shapes, none of which appeal to me... I will probably just cancel the order, thanks for asking for me John!

And the list doesn't include the Dynadrive nor the Powerspot. They would have been nice to have on the list. Makes me wonder if they're not just already-made LE bats that haven't been stickered up yet...

Wouldn't be surprised, but it does say that they are made by Alex himself, so perhaps it is made to order. I cancelled the order, think it would be silly to have a custom made bat to a profile I wasn't massively keen on! (Especially since there's a voucher I could have used to get 20% off!)

Ashes Limited Edition Gray Nicolls Discount Code
« Reply #44 on: August 19, 2013, 03:15:35 AM »

Figured I'd post this code on this topic.

LDAW-A6E2-7NYA

This gives you 20% off the GN LE Ashes special bat, which works out at £220 after discount.
