Taylor averages 42 with 8 hundreds.

The next best is McCullum with an average of 35 with 6 hundreds.

There's very little depth in the Kiwis batting.

Williamson is a great prospect and Ryder was a world class player but he's got issues.

Taylor often digs NZ out. Hence why he's averaging 40+

If he played for South Africa, he can share the burden of scoring the runs. Less pressure would mean he can play for freely.

I agree. Definitely helps if your in a stronger team. being surrounded by success helps you succeed. He has been surrounded by rubbish for most of his career. England, SA and India are lucky in that their openers are so strong. I feel sorry for Williamson and Taylor having to bat behind our top 2.

I don't think Taylor is overrated. I dont think anyone really rates him up there with the best in the world. Still Id be happy with an average of 42.

not judging him by 3 tests, I still think he's overrated !
B.Mccullum is a great batsmen but he's also overrated.

Overrated? That's crazy. His batting average at no.7 is over the World Class mark of 40 so as a batsman I would say that he is NOT overrated!!! As a keeper he may be! His keeping used to be average but he has worked hard and is now a decent keeper.

And ST has also more than proved himself! I rate him as one of the best batsman ever! Is he as good as he was? No! But his figures speak for themselves!

I'm with you on this one! Prior is class, end of story.

Judging by what some people on here are saying they seem to this chopping and changing the side if a player goes 3 tests without a 100 or 5 wicket haul. This will not benefit the side at all in the long run.

You want ODI's? That will be Dhoni who is amongst the best in ODI's.

Sorry but I was talking about (proper) Test match cricket.....that's what I judge on!!

In any format a player can be overrated ! Prior no doubt has great batting abilities but still think he's a bit overrated.

So what you are saying is that he is not overrated in Tests, but he is overrated in ODIs?

I don't know how anyone can say Sachin is overrated. 100 x 100's speaks for itself really.

Watson is the most overrated in my honest opinion

Chris Gayle averages 43 in tests with 15
Hundreds one a huge triple century and has 21 ODI hundreds, 6th best in the history of the game.

So he is clearly a very good cricketer. Being overrated is someone who cannot back up the hype.

Is he being judged on IPL? That's a very poor parameter to judge someone on.

I going to go with this, there hardly any decent glovemen at international level Prior has worked hard with his and done well no better.

His batting is up there with any  main line batsman batsman in test cricket and the reason he is in the side.

Yes his keeping has improved but when you watch a Read or Foster or the much maligned Bates (sorry only know of the Aussie lad and the Sri Lankan) his keeping is still only average in the scheme of things but in the era of batsman keeper like Gilchrist who was not the greatest keeper either he is world class in his field because cricket changed.

Dhoni well is a winner plain and simple classic in either batting or keeping he isn't but a great mind and he has ability with both the bat and gloves like Prior does.

I do think that Watson is a very decent all-rounder!
His ODI and T20 statistics are excellent! And his bowling in Tests are decent too!
The only issue with Watson is that he is NOT an opening Test batsman!!! Absolutely no way!
But as I have said before, slot him in that number 6 slot, and he offers an attractive package (in a totally non-gay way!)
I would even go as far to say, that I would happily play him in the England line-up at number 6 bat and change bowler!
So overrated only as an opening bat IMO.

I rate Watson too. Seems like the old 'round hole, square peg' issue. Watson would get in every international side at 6 as an all rounder. Opening however I think you need a different mindset and a different type of game.
