Help me choose a bat for £200
« on: August 09, 2013, 06:07:06 PM »

I've sold my Laver and Wood so I'm in the market to buy a bat to replace it.

At current I own a SS LE, which is 2.15.

I would like something about 2.9-10 with less concaving.

In terms of Asian bats the CA 15000 is winning the race because they seem to be huge for the weight and the profile seems about right. I've decided against a MB because the handles tend to break.

I'm after a big bat, with limited concaving, but at a lower weight.

Can it be done from an English bat maker at the same price?

Go for an aldred or an rk, both will sort you out with a great bat for less than £200, as will many others but I've been liking these 2 a lot recently.

Every CA 15000 I've knocked in (they are not ready to play as claimed) has been incredibly dry. I would not expect them to last too long.

I've got a GM+ Flare Original on sale, it is 2'11 but the higher middle makes it feel lighter. There are some more details about it in this topic.

PM me for some more details if you like the look of it.

Thanks. Yes, I have heard they are very dry, but do you have people coming back to you saying they have broken?

I don't really like the profile on the GM to be honest, but thank you very much for you input.

What is an RK?

I've only started seeing 15000's crop up in the past few months, but i have had 2 in for toe repair and one for a re-handle this summer. I have been knocking in and also properly binding the handles on CA bats (they are bought to me in the plastic and the binding is very poor) since we opened as there is a large Pakistani population in Peterborough and many people get family/friends to bring/send CA bats over.

No worries on the Flare.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

I think I may give a CA a punt but one of the lower end models.

For an Asian bat, I have had an coupke of RNS and they have both been belters. One's still going strong and must be 6 years old now.

From experience, Aldred or H4L, you are guaranteed a bigger bat with a small amount of concaving. (Unless you go for the Tempo, which has small edges but a huge spine) If you go for a CA, you can never tell if it's going to be concaved heavily or not, unless you see the bat before you buy it.

Try a Python bat
I've got one and without a shadow of a doubt it's better than my Salix which is very good!

This forum is going to make me start my own cricket bat shop.

There is so much choice, what with places like Online Stockist, Asian guys selling nice Asian bats in the UK at great prices. Of course then there's the fantastic bats you see on the forum.

I've just bought a really nice looking CA 1200 for a good price.

I expect I will wait a few months and go for a 'full whack' custom made from one of the forum sponsors.

I am not sure if you have heard of affinity cricket bats. Couple of my teammates have em and they are just awsome bats. I ordered Affinity Specter. If you don't know the company, I encourage you to look into Affinity cricket.
