What a shame
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:17:54 PM »

I spotted a MC Spartan 1000 on the Lords website priced up at £2.40 on Tuesday. To my shame I put in an order to see what would happen and rightfully got an email in the evening saying it was a misprice and did I want to cancelled or pay the difference (£237.60). I cancelled and the customer adviser gave me the money back and said the order would be cancelled.

Unfortunately today, the bat arrived at my work and shes a beaut. I'm not sure it's worth £240 (I can't tap it up at work) but it's still a very good looking stick. It's 2.8, picks up very well and has enormous edges. I've never given a 2nd thought to Spartans for many reasons but I'm impressed and I really like the shape. Anyway, I thought I'd pop up a few pictures before I sent it back.

Shes a stunner there mate,
i've seen worse bats priced a lot higher than that.
Pity you don't want to keep her as i'm sure you would be the envy at your club if you did

Don't retailers have to sell at the advertised price?

If they haven't charged you I'd be waiting to see if they ask for it back or not ;)

Don't retailers have to sell at the advertised price?

Not online or over the phone, no. The law falls on the side of retailers, citing human error.

Mail order is a grey area.

In store. Technically they can refuse to sell at the erroneous marked price up until the point where they start scanning your purchases at the till. Most will honour the price in store anyway, but if you ever find yourself in a situation where they refuse, the law is definitely on the customers side:

Providing you aren't breaking any laws (eg buying alcohol when underage) the retailer enters a contract to sell you all the goods in your basket/trolley at the marked prices as soon as the first item is scanned at the till.

No, that's a popular misconception - a marked price is legally known as 'an invitation to treat' eg negotiate.

I think retailers need a break when it comes to this kind of thing. It did cross my mind but I felt bad enough after I ordered it so I'd just rather give it back. It always comes out of someones pocket.

The shame of it all is that it's a really nice bat, I wish they had sent some rubbish as it'd be much easier to part with :)

That is a nice lump of wood. Wonder if it makes you play like a test captain?

It reminds me off when I ordered a pair of gloves off Willostixs and they posted in error a rather nice bat. Being a trustworthy sort I phoned Willostixs to tell them about the error and arrange its return, which was a bit of a pain as they expected me to pay for the postage! Eventually they organized a courier to pick the bat up from me. For my troubles the gloves never arrived, due to them being out of stock, despite repeated assurances that they would be in stock "in a couple of days" which never materialized. Then after 4 weeks of this I asked for a refund, which in itself took weeks and numerous phone calls to get them to refund the money. Afterwards wished I hadn't returned the bat!

I ordered a mjonir players bat on Monday from Cicada sports. Advertised @ £62. Sale went through, then got an email the next day saying the bat had a fault and had to be sent back to newbery. Would of preferred them to be honest and say it was mis priced rather than lying.

OT - No disrespect to this bat or Spartan,  I feel that profile is very similar to the SS Torpedo I had.
