Retro Bats
« on: September 16, 2013, 07:21:07 AM »

Ok we have now seen the Kook Bubble, GM Purist 2, GN Scoop, Dynadrive, Slaz V12 and I kind of like the Retro SS options..

What is everyone's favourite retro bat?

I've got a nice old JUMBO, I want to refurbish it, but don't want to lose the stickers.

Great find - always loved the SS Jumbo; love the Jumbo font and the old pics of Viv using it (amongst others).  That said, I quite like the shape of the Turbo 333 and good to see they are lighter than Goochie's 3+ lb-ers!  I wonder if SS still do the weird pads...

As for favourite, currently the current Bubble and Powerspot.  The one I'd love to see come back with a major launch, and with the stickers you don't seem to get on the online shop, is the DF Magnum.  In fact, I would love to see a whole DF retro range that included the Magnum and Attack.  Add a range of retro softs (remember the green double finger DF gloves) all with a modern twist like the Bubble range and that would be awesome.  Sadly I feel it would need a company buying DF to see this become a reality.

Ive just started my retro collection with two of my fav Kook's the Bubble and the Ridgeback,
Also ordered a new Bubble from Vitas so will be interesting to see how they look side by side and yes Pics will be posted,
Back on subject i really liked the Hunts county bats with the Stag Graphics another i would love to see come back as they were awesome bats in my childhood especially the Insignia i think, one of our team had one when i first started playing cricket and it sounded immense.

Not sure about the rest of the bats in the range, but defo agree with the Magnum.  I used to love the green double finger gloves.  Would love to see them again.

If people wish to provide Retro Bats for a Retro Batoff, then we'll see what we can do. The new Scoop has participated in one and came out in the middle of the table. The Dynadrive has participated in nets, and I think would have been another mid-table bat if we'd scored it.

The V12 would have to be put up against the Purist really as a modern bat with retro name, while the bubble has only just appeared so there's no chance of testing that and the Jumbo and Turbo are exactly the same as the originals, and we've used originals in a couple of batoffs!

You've been able to buy the Retro bats in the UK since about 2010. I've seriously thought about a Turbo on more than one occasion.
