I think we would like to see the range again and get more of a chance to analyse them in detail before commenting on the shapes, although we don't disagree with your thoughts...

We really liked some of the M&H bats especially the new models, although they are of course at the top end and not suited to everyones budget range. That's where Newbery come in and we think will do well next year...some excellent profiles available in a variety of grades. The new Kudos as has already been mentioned here and also the Mjolnir which has been brought up to date with a slightly larger profile which is more in keeping with what today's batsmen want.

All in all 2014 will offer everyone more variety than ever and the stockists an even bigger headache in deciding what to stock!!

yes, I was confused by that - they had this banner on their stand.  Think it might be some CGI going on! These are the Dale Steyn bowling boots, yes...

So did anyone who attended the trade show take any pictures of the new ranges so we can discuss them?

Thought you might have gone for the orange 4030's, after I watched your video reviewing the Nike bowling boats, you seemed quite excited about that colour. Got me excited that I bought the century II HAHA

I like orange, but very few of our customers do! As a result, we still have some of those Century spikes left over from last year's stock!!  :(

Yes, but as there are several hundred of them, it takes while to upload and sort out.  Check our Facebook page later today...

Does a trade show like this give the exhibitors many sales?

If I'm not mistaken the 2 models of spikes 4040 and 4030 are £95 and £75. The rubbers are the 4020 and are priced at  £55.

Going back to the Adidas gear, the bats may not be to everyones liking in terms of stickers, but the profiles and quality thats been assured, should make up for all of that when stocks arrive. In previous years the bats have been a little "weak" looking, but for the coming season they look much better and the pick up and balance is good too.

It would be good to hear what everyones thoughts are on the Spartan range...

Has there been a definitive answer re; who makes Adidas' bats?

Re; Spartan I'm a huge fan of the range after initially thinking the branding was quite in your face - I've tried the MC Limited Edition gloves on and they feel great - would've probably gone for those and the pads if the Kook 2014 range hadn't blown me away...

The Spartan bats you're discussing - Buzz, are you saying that every bat is different within the ranges?  i.e. two MP Ltd Ed' will have significantly different shapes and, if ordering online (why would you), its pot luck what you get?  I do think Spartan are here to stay, but it will be interesting to see how well they sell from forum sponsors through 2014...

The Spartans I saw in Australia a month ago were pretty consistent in shape within each model and grade. Eg the top end Clarke bats (1000 and LE) were the same profile with very little concaving. The lower grade Clarke bats (2000, 3000, and so on) were super concaved though.

It's not been a great 2 days of trade shows for me. I've been walking round like a zombie as i'm suffering with terrible flu.

Buzz, i believe you met Robin and our clubs Australian while i was chatting with Tom at the Adidas/Ayrtek stand, they said you ran off like an excited child after they mentioned the Hunts County Turbo! Apologies for not catching up and saying hello a bit later, i needed to get out and get a few beers down my very sore throat. Same goes for you Paul, though i did spot you rocking some indoor shades ;)

Good show i thought. I think the date change (there was talk of this show being on monday) has caught a few people out, surprised to see Salix and Chase not there.

New Balance seemed great to deal with, we'll be buying into their shoes in a big way, not so sure about the cricket gear.

Spartan totally changed the dynamic and feel of the show. Never before have i met a brand owner who has asked me if i am 'going to buy lots of fu$*ing s*!t' from him! Crazy, but very approachable, loved a bit of banter. If we are able to handpick Spartan bats (very important i think) then they will be hard to ignore.

Masuri felt fine on my head, not different to my existing Elite Titanium. The double bars line up to look like one, i honestly couldn't tell the difference once on my head. It is the image that will take a bit of getting used to for many. The Club option is more 'normal' looking though.

No pictures from me unfortunately. I felt awful on the day, just wanted to get in and get out.

Hi Guys,

First post on here so thought I would introduce myself. I'm Chris Beaumont-Dark, worker at It's Just Cricket, and regular cricketer, playing for Hampstead CC 1st XI in the Middlesex Prem, and Middlesex u17, u19 and Academy. You may have seen me on the Youtube channel for IJC.

Yesterday was the first trade show I had the luck of attending and I found it particularly interesting. As a big of a bat geek, I told my friend I was going and she said I'd be "like a kid in a candy shop", and how right she was. Here are a few observations from the day.

Really liked the Adidas / Ayrtek collaboration. Especially with the Masuri offering being poor this year I think that people will definitely start paying more for their helmets, more so if Adidas can persuade players like Broad and Pietersen to wear them! Very expensive but the new safety standards will definitely play into their hands, so I can only see them growing.

Adidas I liked their new shoes, the Vortex being the Jimmy Anderson shoe I think will sell particularly well, it has a lot of little features like the grid system of the rubber spikes, and one back spike on the inside? of the foot, which I haven't seen on other spikes before, so think they will sell. The Adidas softs were ok, nothing special, but not too awful either. As for bats, I don't mind the Pellara stickers as much as anyone else seems to do, I think they aren't terrible. The bigger news is the launch of the Sachin Tendulkar bat over here in the UK for the first time. Fully expecting that to fly off the shelf.

Masuri as I have mentioned was distinctly average. Very heavy, visibility limited, and frankly they look a bit cheap, with the different materials just looking like it has all been thrown together. Not impressed massively.

Gray Nicolls must have been one of the highlights of the show for me. Their new bats are very good. Some of them I felt were a bit gimicky, like the Maverick F1 with the "speed grooves" cut into the side. Nemesis and Vortex similar thing, but they will sell I'm sure. The bats I most liked were the Oblivion E41, very nice, if quite standard shape, and then the X181 I was remarkably impressed by. Great shape, huge, long middle and picked up like a dream, will certainly be a top seller for us at IJC I believe. Softs were standard Gray Nics, solid without being amazing, and bags were much the same, although a couple of the new bags are ridiculously big, honestly these things were enormous!

Next brand I really looked at was Spartan. We had a few reservations with Spartan before the show so this was an important one. I arrived after Matt Prior had left so I didn't get the gimick, I just got to look at the kit in detail. The softs were really nice, very high quality, and the bags had some nice little touches like a cool bag at the end for drinks and food etc. No bat cave was a worry though. I agree with earlier comments about standardised shapes - the Chris Gayle bats varied massively in their amount of concaving, so this is something I would be worried about. Prior shape is a bit of a nothing for me, so it was the Clarke shape I really really liked. Little concaving, big middle, good pick up, was a massive fan of that. Overall, quite pleased with that from Spartan.

M&H were my final brand I took an interest in. Pleased to see them bringing back the tan leather on their wicket keeping gloves as well as the white, I think it is understatedly very good looking. The major thing is the CK22 range which I'm a massive fan of. The bat itself is a cross between the Master and the Amplus, with the spine of the Master, and edges and middle position of an Amplus - can see it being a big hit. The CK22 softs were very nice, traditional style pads, with the gloves also being very solid, the splashes of blue on this range also looked very nice IMO. Think M&H will be very strong this year.

That's my conclusion really, had a great day, exciting to see the major brands launches for next year, we are certainly spoilt for choice as the paying customer!

Sorry it's so long, had to do it justice!
