Bola Machines - Transformer
« on: September 24, 2013, 10:01:47 AM »

We have a Bola "club" bowling machine at my old club which is powered by a 12v car battery.

My question is, can you use a standard 240 to 110v transformer if you want to use the mains supply? Or do you have to actually buy the official transformer from Bola (which is very expensive!).

How about something like this?

Pretty sure the tranny' in your link wouldn't work, as you are stepping down 240v to 110v ac.
Looking at the Bola site, they're transformer outputs dc voltage. You need to check the motor requirement, possibly something like 24vdc, but high amperage. The info should be stamped somewhere on the nameplate.
It may be worth popping into a Maplin store( once you've ascertained the correct mains input for the Bola eg 20v dc) and discussing it with them.
Sure it's going to be achievable, and a lot cheaper than the original Bola.

Thanks for that. I'll check over the weekend unless one of the forum sponsor's has one in stock they could post a picture off?
