Advice / Comments on GM vs SS/TON Pads + Gloves please.....
« on: September 29, 2013, 03:57:38 PM »

Hi all

Having never used either of these particular products I'm looking for some comments / advice from people who have  :D

GM - I have only ever used a more traditional style of pad so I am a little concerned about the feel and fit of these. Should I be? Gloves look quality though.

SS / TON

Thanks.

That's the tricky bit. Potentially buying blind with the SS if i went for those and will try and get a try of the GM on soon!

The Ton stuff is sold by a fair few people in the uk (if buying blind SS from India? Be a little carefull of sizing). But both softs I'm sure are very comfy!

I've used Ton softs this season and have been pretty impressed with them. I'm keeping the pads (gladiator) for next season but will change the gloves as they are slightly too small for me.

I've got those exact GM pads/gloves. Couldn't be happier with them.

I'm 6ft 2 and the pads are normal mens and fit fine not to mention being light and protective. Gloves are again normal sized in comparison to some SS ones I had which came up quite small.

Last season I used the GM pads and gloves. This season I'm using the SS Gladiator pads and gloves (reflecting a change in bats).

I found the protection on the GM pads and gloves great - the pads are slightly heavy - but protection level is great. The gloves felt fantastic, really comfortable on my largish hands. The GM gloves (Original LE) really only lasted a year before needing replacing though - they lost their grip. Maybe it was my own fault using them in every practice as well as games.

As a side note - I used the GM Original LE thigh pad and didn't get on with it - it just felt too big and bulky. Now I'm using the SS thigh pad.

The SS pads are the lightest pads I've ever felt, even lighter than my GN Legend pads. Their protection is fine as well - no issues there. I love the gloves too - although they are a bit smaller than the GM gloves, but they aren't so small they feel uncomfortable. I've used these for the last couple of months in practice and a couple of times in T20 games. They are set to be my new go-to gear for this summer.

Personally I'd lean towards the SS gear (especially Gladiator pads/gloves). But to me it depends on what bat you have! As we all know - you can't go mixing different pads and gloves to your bat!

My entire batting set up is GM, and I've been very impressed with the pads. The gloves are looking a little battered now, despite me not spending much time in the middle, so will need replacing for next year, although they'll still be ok for use in the nets. I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.

Had SS gloves this year (Test Silvers) and they were extremely comfortable, if they are all similar across the ranges then you cant go wrong with them.

if you are tall, the SS stuff comes up smaller then the GM stuff is what you want.
the GM thighpads are now a load less bulky, but unlikely to be in the sale like the GM stuff. (l.e. kit can be sourced at brilliant prices this time of year.)

the SS kit is great though.
